Crate Training

Hello again,

I am trying to crate train my dog, Marlie, to help with potty training. I have watched a training dvd on it but it does not give us a time scale on how long it will take. I have been getting her used to it for a couple days now...but when we put her in it for more than 20 minutes or so...she starts pawing at the door to get out. How do I know when she is ready to sleep in it the whole night? Does anyone have any tips on crate training?

Thank you for your time!

Re: Crate Training

Don't take her out when she does that, and she'll eventually calm down. As soon as she is calm take her out. Repeat

Sadie slept in her crate the first night she was here. She doesn't always like going in the crate but she quiets down quickly.

At night you will want to take her out if she starts crying in the middle of the night for a potty break. But don't pay any attention to her when you first put her in until she is behaving.
