| A Pretty Crappy Question I am considering changing my pup's feeding schedule from 3 to 2 times a day. Right now, he poops about 4x a day. I have never been able to detect any kind of pattern--he goes when he feels like it, sometimes four or five hours after eating, sometimes more and sometimes less. It also varies day by day. If I feed him 2 times a day instead of three, (he's going on 6 months), will he still poop the same 4x a day or will the pattern ever stabilize? I'd like to get it down to twice a day for my own sanity but he only goes once in an outing, no matter how far we walk. Any poop experts out there? |

| Re: A Pretty Crappy Question Right now, I'm feeding him Pinnacle (sold at Pet Supplies Plus). It was recommended by his trainer and OK'd by his vet. It's a holistic, natural vegetable based dry food for both puppies and adult dogs. |

| Re: A Pretty Crappy Question I think you should change his food because, to me, that sounds like he is pooping more than he should. My dog eats canidae and only poops 2 and sometimes 3 times a day. |

| Re: A Pretty Crappy Question Pinnacle is a decent food from what I know, but it doesn't sound like it's working for your pup.
You may want to try and brand switch.
I own a GSD and he poops once to twice a day, max. If he were pooping 4 times a day, I'd be awfully concerned....and grossed out (hey...that's a lot of freakin poo!). |

| Re: A Pretty Crappy Question At 6 months, your puppy can safely go to two feedings day; try to do them at approximately the same time each day. Does he poop a lot each time he goes? If yes, he may not be getting all the nutrients he needs from the food he's eating; or if he's getting a lot of treats in addition to his feedings, that could account for more pooping. I'd try another food, such as Wellness or Fromm as most dogs who eat these brands seem to poop less than on other brands because they're absorbing more nutrients from the food. They're natural, no garbage, no filler foods. I put my puppy on it and he poops twice a day, shortly after he eats. Also, try taking your puppy out to potty about 20-30 minutes after he eats; don't go for a walk, go out strictly to potty. If he doesn't potty within a few minutes, go back inside and try again about 20 minutes later. With a change in diet and a schedule, you may see a difference. |

Pinnacle is a good food (and it's many formulas) but yes it's either not working for your dog, or perhaps you are feeding more then you need to, and some excess is just coming out the other end. |
