| Dealing with the Wait So, for those of you that have been reading my posts, you might remember that I don't have a dog yet... I'm getting a pomeranian at the end of May.
The puppies were born on the 1st of this month, and I got a picture at 5 days old from the breeder last week. I am having the HARDEST time trying not to bug the breeder for updates! My future puppy is 10 days old now and I'm trying to hold out for just a few more days before pestering her for more pictures.
For those of you that went through it, how do you deal with the wait for your future puppy? (Besides obsessively reading dogforums, I've got that base covered!) |

| Re: Dealing with the Wait I only had to wait a couple of weeks before I could get up to the breeders house and I spent time waiting for it to go by, looking at the pics she sent and not paying attention in school I was excited. This is the pic the breeder sent me,
This pic only made the waiting worse! lol He is the pup on the right. |

| Re: Dealing with the Wait What a cute picture Durb!
The puppies still look like little rats in the picture I got from the breeder, since they were only 5 days. I don't even know which dog I get yet, since she won't pick which one she keeps for showing until they are 8 weeks old. I thought seeing the pictures would give me some patience, but it has only made me worse! |

| Re: Dealing with the Wait I have no idea how you'll deal with it. I adopted an adult dog from a shelter. I had to wait a week for him to get neutered and then to check my app. and I was a distracted nervous wreck. I guess I passed the time by visiting him a few times, going to pet stores and buying him toys and going on DF to talk to other dog owners. Also I daydreamed a lot and spent a lot of time on the phone with my friends worrying. Good luck with the wait! |

| Re: Dealing with the Wait Hey.
Well take some comfort knowing that you and I are in EXACTLY the same position. Except I get my puppy a month earlier... at the end of April.
I haven't even seen any pictures of the puppies yet. Only a video that was about 10 seconds long. But I've seen lots of pictures of the mom and dad and they are gorgeous.
So, what am I doing? Well, besides the fact that I'm sure I annoy my co-workers every day by e-mailing around pictures of poms and saying "I want my puppy now" a minimum of 2 times a day... I find just making sure you're read EVERYTHING and making lists and setting deadlines for when you want to get your "puppy stuff" is good to cut the wait up a bit.
Plus, I've been told by many people to enjoy a full nights sleep for now... so I'm doing that too. Haha. |

| Re: Dealing with the Wait I know how you feel the waiting is killer.
I adopted a dog from Greece and it was finalized 3 weeks ago and were supposed to be getting him this weekend. Unfortunatly they may not be able to find him a crate big enough for him to ship this weekend so we may end up having to wait until the 29th. Two weeks just feels like sooooooooooooooooo long now.
I've been filling my time reading everything I can and buying tons of stuff for him. Atleast the extra time gives me more money to spend spoiling him in advance
Congratulations on your puppy and I hope the time passes by quickly for you.

| Re: Dealing with the Wait Haha, yes this all sounds very similar to what I'm doing...
I bought books to read: Pomeranians for Dummies, The Little Dogs Activity Book, and For the Love of the Dog.
I constantly bug my coworkers, especially the one with the Yorkie pup.. telling her how her dog and my dog will be office friends.
I annoy my boyfriend by telling him all the things I learn on DogForums and talking about our "future dog".
I bookmark all of the items that I want to buy for the dog while I'm bored at work.
YouTube!!! There are some extremely adorable videos on youtube of Pomeranians... yes, I'm hooked and I forced the bf watch them too.
I repeatedly check the breeders website to look for updates, repeatedly check my email to look for updates...
And then I wonder how I got so crazy!! haha

| Re: Dealing with the Wait Ha ha... I totally do the overshare with the boyfriend too. He tries to pretend he's not really bothered but I know he's really just as excited as I am -- just much better at hiding it. It would be great if our puppies could be friends but I doubt you live in Toronto, Canada? |

| Re: Dealing with the Wait I'm in Seattle, pretty close to BC (my family is from Vancouver) but definately not Toronto! I can't wait until you get your dog though so I can see pictures! I will have to live vicariously through you for a month until I get my own
Have you checked out Dogster yet? I get my dog fix on there too, there are tons of cute poms. |

| Re: Dealing with the Wait I'm still waiting for my babies as they are not ready to go yet. We pick up our little boy Lexx in 2 weeks (24th May) and then we can collect our little girl Sami the following saturday 31st May.
My breeders have offered to send me pics, so I'm trying to be patient and wait as I'm sure they're busy. Lucky I only have to wait a few weeks and I'll have them both...I'm so excited tho and counting the sleeps cuz I can't wait! |

| Re: Dealing with the Wait I 1st saw pics of Tilba's litter when they were 1 day old. April was still with me at the time. April died 4 weeks later. then the breeder put pics up of the litter at 5 w/o. I 1st got in touch with her another week later. A few days later she told me she was going to Crufts & Europe for 3 weeks. I met her the day she came home & the pups were 9.5 weeks old. I didn't know which pup would be mine for another few days. As she lives 6 hrs away, I had to wait until my oh got his holidays for us to go & pick her up. She was 2 days short of 12 weeks old when we got her home.
I used to look at the web site every day wondering which was to be my pup & still every day when I knew which was to be mine. It was a long 6 weeks. But well worth the wait in the end. She's now 16.5 weeks old & that 5 weeks has gone so quickly. |

| Re: Dealing with the Wait i have an even longer wait! we have just been added to a breeder's wait-list (we're getting a westie) and have contacted another breeder as well. i will probably have to wait until late summer/fall. to pass the time i've been making lists, ie: "things to buy" "house training steps" "puppy names", etc |

| Re: Dealing with the Wait I only had to wait about 3 weeks for Lexi, but it was the longest 3 weeks of my life! She came to me from Texas (I live in Northern Indiana). I looked at her pics every day. I also looked up articles and read books on house breaking, etc to pass the time. It had been a while since I've had a puppy, so I needed the refresher anyway!! |
