Can I use baby Shampoo on my puppy?

Can I use baby Shampoo on my puppy?
I have some in the house... and my boyfriend can help me give him a bath tonight.

I've used it on my cats, they seemed fine.. and smelled great, haha. I don't want to harm him of course though.

Re: Can I use baby Shampoo on my puppy?

Please don't. It's gentler than adult shampoo, but still not suitable for dogs - especially pups.

Also stay away from grocery store dog shampoos. It's worth going to a pet store and getting a good quality shampoo made for dogs. A little of the good stuff will go a long way and won't dry out the coat and irritate the skin.

That being said, I am a firm believer in semi-annual baths for my dogs - unless they roll in something disgusting (which is their primary goal in life.)

I agree with RonE, I used baby shampoo for the first 4 months on my dog because someone told me it was good for them, then later found out it dried out their skin pretty bad and now I’m using an oatmeal based shampoo from the vet to help get rid of the dry skin from using baby shampoo.

Alright, I'd rather not use it since hes so young still. He'll have to remain stinky until the weekend. At least I have puppy wipes

Human shampoos, no matter how 'gentle' they are, can dry out a puppy or dog's coat out really bad, as well as cause dry skin, and itchiness...Coming from a 'former' dog groomer, spend the extra dollars and get a good dog shampoo for your dog, instead of going the 'cheap route' with baby shampoo. Most dog shampoos can be diluted as well, so your money goes further anyway, and you don't risk drying out his skin and coat.
