Angry Jasmine

Jasmine,

I found the courage to call back Pegasus Laboratories yesterday. The memories of your last 57 days with us came flooding back. The grief we have been suffering since 09-04-09 manifested itself once more for I had to speak your name out loud once again. The guilt I carry for giving you this medicine runs deep.
I knew what they would say," ProIn did not contribute to her death. There is no documented research that indicates ProIn neither does any harm nor kills.... It only stays in the system for 4 hours... We are pet lovers.......We can hear how much you cared for Jasmine.... (I firmly believe all this was a script she was reading). We treat all information from pet owners seriously....You sent no medical records for Jasmine when you changed Doctors. What did he say about ProIn? (Nothing, he was not going to discredit a fellow Doctor but he did bring out his Plum reference book and showed me where she should never have been given Diatro {Lomotil} for diarrhea). He did his very best to make her last days comfortable. Took her off all the meds, gave her pepto bismol to stop her diarrhea. And then I told her, we're not here to discuss the 'other vet'.
This scripted phone conversation went on for about 15 more minutes and then I was asked if I had anything further to say. Yes, as the manufacturer of this drug, you must make Vets better informed of adverse reactions to ProIn. Help make it mandatory that Vets tell us about adverse reactions. Allow us the right to make informed decisions about our pets health care.
We hear your voice...We hear Jasmine's voice...You sent your information to the Board of Directors and I have passed it along to them.... I restated my initial claim that I know how Jasmine was on July 8, 2009 before I gave her this drug, I know how she was July 9, 2009 after her first dose. We watched her die a slow death.

I never expected them to say "Yes we agree. We killed her." I did expect, 'We'll research this drug further..."

She sounded like I was the only person who ever complained to them about this drug? Was she telling me that no one else had ever told them that ProIn kills? Has no one else had the courage to do this?

As I have quoted from the FDA website in all my recent posts: “If you do not file a complaint with the FDA...you're giving the manufacturer ammunition to use against you. They can claim there are so few cases of adverse reactions... nothing needs to be done. When you don't file, you stack the statistics in the manufacturers favor. Don't depend on your vet's office."

It’s never too late to do this. I really have never been the type of individual who complains but this drug, ProIn, helped kill my beloved Jasmine. I will not rest.

Re: Jasmine

jasminesmom,

It isn't your fault, you shouldn't blame yourself.

You and Jasmine put your trust in this new doctor who trusted Pegasus Laboratories to sell ProIn to all the vet facilities and the doctor is the one who approve the purchase of this product then treated your dog.

It isn't your fault for giving Jasmine this medication so quit beating yourself up on this.

I somehow felt it was more of the Doctors fault than Pegasus b/c he should have known how this medication would react towards dogs first hand whereas Pegasus only know the reaction through textbook form.

When Cisco died - I was some-what mad at the Doctor because he's the same vet who treated Cisco for 12 yrs....he know Cisco like I know my A,B,C's and his bone marrow Leukemia popped up out of no where

1 week back Cisco did his annual check up.... he drew blood, ran it (I'm guessing) and nothing. But a week later he did the same procedure and BOOM he has Lukemia, WTF!!!!!
What happend last week?
Why didn't you discover then?

These folks (vet/Pegasus) isn't cold blooded killers....I'm sure they want what's best for our beloved friends. We can sit here and point fingers which isn't going to solve anything. I am happy to hear you filed a complaint about this medication and they should take into consideration of re-calling this ProIn and pull it off the shelf before more furry friends fall victim to it.

Regards,
Stogey

Re: Jasmine

stogey,

I hear what you are saying to me and I agree somewhat.
The remainder of my story includes this facts:when I approached the vet July 14 stating Jasmine's reactions, her remark to me was "There are no reactions from ProIn".

So who would be at fault here, Pegasus Labs for not sending a Client Information Sheet to the vet, the vet for not knowing about the drug esp, the adverse reactions, when not to give senerios, the pharmacy who distributes it but when advertised lists nothing but good things about this drug: http://prnpharmacal.com/proin/index.php or me for not reaseaching it myself before I gave it to Jasmine.??

Go to: http://www.i-love-dogs.com/forums/do...roin-read.html

Check out all the stories about the pain, the suffering, the heartache pet owners have been thru due to ProIn.

Did ProIn directly bring down Jasmine? Probably not. Did it manifest an underlying disease and kill her? Yes.

So who's to blame: Pegasus for not stressing the importance of adverse/side effects, when not to give? The Vet for not allowing me a choice IF I had been able to read a CIS? Or PRN for not telling the whole truth in their advertising? or me?

Long post-yes. Ranting, venting? yes. But the message I am trying to convey is that unless given a CIS, ask or research it yourself before you injest your pet.

My desire is for laws be put into place that insure Vets/drug companies afford pets, whom they work for, the same rights as humans. Give us a CIS and let us make the choice of to give or not. Am I asking too much?

And speaking of textbook form, they quote how wonderful this drug is from the: "Proin contains phenylpropanolamine (PPA), ingredient available only by veterinary prescription. A study published in Dansk Veterinaertidsskriftl, a Danish journal, indicated that PPA effectively controlled urinary incontinence in all 17 of the dogs receiving oral dosage (one dog continued to have slight symptoms). The study included 13 females and four males, encompassing nine different breeds."

Sorry stogey, but I wanted to tell you the rest of Jasmine's story. I promised Jas.
