| So lost without my dog I had to put down my baby girl of almost 13 years on Monday evening, and it is killing me inside. I cant eat, I cant sleep, I cant think or do anything but cry and feel guilty. I have never had such a strong connection with anyone in my life, like I had with her. She is my best friend. Where do I go from here? I dont know what to do.
I feel like I could have saved her..I was just too late :'( We found out she had heart disease in the summer...they said she didnt absolutely need them right away...I bought them for her the day she died. She saved my life and I couldnt save hers. I am devastated. |

| Re: So lost without my dog Putting down a beloved pet is one of the hardest things to do and my heart goes out to you! It still hurts when I think about my Maddie that I put down about three years ago, but it does get better when you think of all the awesome times you had together. Maybe you should make a scrap book about your dog with lots of pictures and info about her life. Maybe when it gets warm and you have the room dig a garden that symoblizes her life.
Try not to feel quilty although I know that is easier said than done. Instead try and celebrate the life you two shared. She lived a long and sounds like a good life! |

| Re: So lost without my dog Thank you. We burried her in the garden so I think I would like to plant something for her. She loved snooping around that garden
My dad and I have sworn we can hear her bark, or heard her walking on the floor downstairs. Thats the only comfort I have right now, thinking she is still with us |

| Re: So lost without my dog My dog died last night in my arms from heart disease. We knew she had an enlarged heart, but the vet said years ago just watch and since she was acting fine not to place her on meds. The meds themselves can have many side effects.
Last week she couldn't breathe, tongue was blue. Rushed her to the vet and she spent the day there. The vet treated her, place her on meds and she got almost back to normal. She then relasped and couldn't breathe. It's terrible watching them suffer. We tried more meds, but she finally died.
Like you I'm thinking should I have done more. She was my love. I cradled her for days so she could hold her head back and breathe. I didn't want to put her down and watching her suffer was killing me. Heart problems are really hard and difficult to deal with.
With heart problems, with treatment they may live a week or even some years, but it's a hard condition to treat. Not really much you can do. I understand the guilt. It's so sad.
I am lost too. Try and remembering the good times, but it just hurts so much now. Still, I would had rather had that time than not at all.
Hope you feel better soon. Don't feel guilty, there's really not much that can be done and no doubt you gave lot's of love. |

| Re: So lost without my dog I am sorry for your loss, I know exactly what your feeling right now.
Its been almost 3 weeks and yet I still feel the same way as I did the night she died. I dont cry as much as I did but I could just be sitting watching tv or with a friend, and start sobbing. I think about her all day and I'm stuck on the "what if's."
You know, half of the time I think that the vets don't really care. All they want is to overcharge us because they know we WILL pay anything to help our babies. I spent hundreds and hundreds on China- as did my parents. I lost all faith in my vet and I refuse to go back to him. Because he gave me a drug that both him and I knew never sat well with my dog, and I believe that because of that, he sped her death up and made her suffer. Even when her heart was beating a million miles a minute, he said she was fine. I told him he was wrong because her heart shouldn't be beating that fast if she was fine. Of course he dismissed me and look what happened.

| Re: So lost without my dog Thanks guys
My mom bought a new dog from the animal shelter on Friday. His name is Quill (the people at the SPCA named him that because he was found wandering the highway with porcupine quills in his face) and he is an australian shepherd mixed with sheltie I think. Very shy, sweet dog. He is awfully skinny and was more than likely abused at his former "home." They think he might be 3 years old but I think he looks much older. He limps a bit but he is also very matted. He didn't even know what a dog treat was. I feel badly for him, and its hard to not like him. I just feel horrible that its been 3 weeks and already we have a new dog here. |

| Re: So lost without my dog punkrockprincess,
China will always have a special place in your heart. Bringing in another to love does not mean you have forgotten China. There are no rules for love and no rules for when is it time to love another.

I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved furbaby. All here know how you are feeling. The emptiness, the lonliness. Grieve for your loved one. In time, they say, the memories will flow will less pain and sorrow. Weep when you must.
My Jasmine has been gone since 09-04-09. The pain today is no less than the pain that day. The memories flow but are still shrouded with tears. I gave her ProIn which after 57 days from the first dose, killed her.
My thought and prayers are of you today.
