Oh MY Gosh!!! How devastating!!! I would be at loss for words. No matter what "breed" a dog is, they are still our family. Who cares who shot him, it's still a life that they took. I hope they have a conscience and come forward. Gosh, I'm sorry for your loss!

Hugs and prayers, Stephanie & LeRoy

A similar situation happened here in my hometown a few years ago. A girl who had a seizure disorder had a lab that was trained to help her. The police had to be called to that home for something that had nothing to do with the girl or her dog so they put the lab in a room and closed the door and told the police that the dog was in there. The police evidently went ahead and opened that door anyway and the ran out barking and they shot and killed it. This was on the front page of newpaper when it happened and people were really upset about it - then all of a sudden you never heard anything more about it. The dog to my understanding was just doing it's job and it didn't harm anyone. I guess it just SCARED the police and they shot it! I hate to hear about things like that!!!!!!

Re: my dog dodge killed by police need help

I hate the rep that "pits" have gotten.. its not the dogs fault!!! It's not the breeds fault!!! The dog didn't choose which breed it wanted to be!!! The one at fault is the people who mistreat their dogs and turn them into vicious animals!! My cousin owns a AST (can't spell it sorry) and he is THE most loving dog I have ever met!!!! of course he barks at people that come into HIS yard that he doesn't know, but once my cousin steps outside he backs down... he would never hurt anyone he just barks to let my cousin know someone is there.... EVERYDOG does this... I was so angry when my landlord told me I could get a dog than HANDED ME A LIST OF "UNFORGIVABLES" that's what he called it a list of dogs that were "unforgivable" that I couldn't have because of their reputation! And German Shephard was on there!! (my dog is a GSD/Border Collie cross but he doesn't know that!) I'm so sorry for your loss... I wonder if you could get a case on Breedism... kinda like racism but for dogs... Again I am sorry for your loss.

Re: my dog dodge killed by police need help

Gosh! This had to be the first message that I would come across on my very first day on the forum!

This is really unbearable, I have heard of a similar case while working with an NGO in Calcutta... policemen were on a raid of a particular apartment on the 2nd Floor in a building in Southern Fringes of the City... a little Spitz (1 year old) from the apartment adjoining the one those men were breaking in, started barking incessantly, as they would aways do.

The lady who this little dog belonged to was in the bathroom, while the dog was there with the main door open but a collapsible gate shut and locked, it was done to allow the dog to get a view of the outside while being within the doors.

One of those police man was very annoyed by the barking dog since he was alarming the thug who they wanted to arrest! OK, that's fine but to stop the dog he thrust his rifle through the door and damaged the dog's eyes ! the dog is now blind.

But the point is that when we lodged a complaint against the police and filed a case under the Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals Act the responsible police constable was suspended from duty and further action was taken against him.

Although this is very rare in India, I should say (without offending anyone) .... but this happened there, so why can't this happen in a modern welfare nation like USA!

I know some people are correct in saying that the police men were doing their job.... but please remember, they are not ordinary people, they are trained to do what they do, protect people and their property.

I just wonder what'll happen to the system if police starts behaving like a frightened common man and starts killing for protection.

I didn't mention the age of the thread because of what you posted.
