Re: Do you ever miss a dog even though they have been gone for a long time?

I will always miss Misty, our second eskie. We have a new eskie now, that I also named Misty, because she looks just like our 2nd dog. Misty (the 1st) was my favorite. My dad passed away, then our 1st eskie died a few months later. My mom was needed company. I happen to stop by an animal shelter and saw her. She was barking as if she was happy to see me and she reminded me of our 1st eskie. I had my mom look at her, then we decided to take her. It wasn't long until we got used to her. I also found out she was well trained. She plays fetch, comes on command, she even stays within our yard and never beyond it. She was the perfect dog. If she wanted to go out, she would bark at us. We would let her out, while we remained inside. She would bark at the door if she wanted to go in. Or if we thought it was too long, we would knock on our windows and she would immediately run to our front door waiting to go inside. She was very friendly to people. She would usually bark when there is someone at the door, but once inside, she was nice to them.

My dog(Oliver, an English Springer Spaniel) was taken re-homed when he was 10 years old--I was about 18. I had him since I was 7 or 8. I miss him like crazy all the time, and sometimes I go into bawling fits because I miss him so much. It was only 2 years ago, but I definitely will never forget him. I think when I get another doggie friend it'll be much better. But he was really my first dog, and best. <3

I hope he found a great home at the rescue, and hasn't died from a broken heart.

There are two dogs that I frequently miss, one my first dog, a Sibe named Sam; he was stolen and we never got him back...

The other guy I miss is my Golden mx, Prince...he really was my doggy prince!!!

I miss all my other special four footed friends too, but these dogs left really deep foot prints, that no dog has ever touched.

I miss my childhood dog terribly. His name was Kaiser...he was a feisty miniature schnauzer that loved and protected us fiercely. He was euthanized at age 14 because of declining health. I was 13.

I think it's normal to miss a pet who impacted your life. It's only been 8 months since we lost one of our beloved dogs and I grieve for her almost daily. I imagine I will always miss them.

My very first dog I miss frequently (and still have pictures of) My mom got her for me when I was maybe 4 years old, a pretty red Queensland heeler with blue eyes, aptly named Blue by my 4 year old self...We have a horse ranch in Arizona (my grandparents and mother do) so a heeler was very fitting. She was the coolest dog, she used to walk to my bus stop with me in the mornings for school (1/2 mile walk up our private driveway) and when the bus would come, she'd wait until I got on and then run home...when I got home in the afternoon, she was waiting there for me...this continued up until I was in highschool, but by then she'd stopped meeting me in the afternoon (she was getting up in age) I put her down when I was 17 after she had a stroke and could no longer get up. She is the one dog that sticks in my mind constantly.

gingersnap. my first dog. a field bred english setter. old mr. thompson was getting too old to hunt so mr. thompson gave her to my family. she lived with us until she developed serious cancer and we couldn't afford surgery.

and then there is cowboy. I miss him most of all. the first pit bull to ever cross my path. I don't know what happened to him. all I know is when I was six and all the adults were drinking and screaming and fighting, his dog house was the safest most comfortable place to be and came complete with a battle scarred buddy who would lay his head in my lap and lick away my tears. I always got the switch when I got caught near his pen. they said he was "visicious". I knew better......
