I will always miss my first dog...He's been gone for about a year and a half and I often cry when my current dog does something my first dog used to do I even thought I wouldn't be able to love another dog so much...but this wasn't true...I know it sounds selfish, but I wish they never die before we do...

My first dog was a beagle named Freemont. He was my only friend at times and I still miss him terribly. He was about 12 when he died. Although he went peacefully, he still remains a vivid part of my life. I recieved him when I was 8 and he was with me till I was about 20. He could always tell when I was down as he would lay his head on my lap.

What saddens me even worse is that Copper does the same thing. They both act exactly the same. Its almost scary.

I miss my burger when I am gone for an hour! I cant imagine him gone!

I know my boyfriend has gone through a run down of cats and dogs. He misses them all so dearly and he sometimes shows me pictures of them and says how he misses them.

The first dog Someone stole out of his backyard.
Then he got a cat and she died of old age
Then his last recent cat, he went out of town because his dad was in the hospital and his roommate left the garage door open and she ran out. Been gone since. I think he missed her the most because she was there for him when he was going through hard times.

Yes I lost my chihuahua, Annie in 2002 to diabete. She was 12 years old and I had her since she was 6 weeks old, and although I just lost Susie 2 weeks ago, I still miss Annie and find myself crying for her also. It seems like although the pain lessens a little, it never really goes away. And certain things will remind me of her and all the puppies I have lost and I will find myself tearing up missing them, so you are not alone.

Well, I can't say I cry about her (Snuggles) anymore, but the day she died (Thanksgiving) 1987) was the same day my dad died. I'm figuring he's feeding her way too much and she's sleeping on his lap

I will always miss Tasha - my first Siberian husky...she gave me a love for the breed, and a passion for sledding...

Oh my- How sad! I am so sorry for your losses-

I agree with you that your Dad is taking care of Snuggles. I think that my Dad is taking care of Shadow (our goldenboy) and they are having nice long hikes together-

I miss my dog that I lost 18 years ago. I think about all of my animals that have gone to Heaven already. I hope that when it is my time they are at least as happy to see me as I am to see them. It will be quite a large number. I hope God has set aside a very large area for all the animal lovers.

Re: I Have Hag A Lot

I really feel for you too. You never get over being sad and crying about a loss of anybody or anything. I just lost my rotty Elmo on March 9, 2007 because of the pet food that was recalled. I usually cry every night...it's just something you don't get over, ever. I'm really sorry about all of your losses. All I can really do is give you support. But All of our pets are playing together on the rainbow bridge...and sometime down the line well all be reunited with them!

heck yeah! My first dog, Matty. We got her a week after she was born. I lvoed that dog to much, her and I were like best friends. I'm not sure what kind of dog she was really, but i adored her. She passed away when i was moving onto 5th grade (she was 10). Now i'm 15, and i have her picture on my desk and i look at it constantly. I can barley ever even talk about her, i get that feeling that comes from your chest. I really can't wait to see her again

Just don't be in too much of a hurry. You have a lot of life left, and a lot of dogs to love. It is that feeling in your chest over a lost pet that makes you truly. Human and all of the compassion that is supposed to accompany that.

Of course, anjamaka.

Grief is universal and many wounds never completely heal. A blow to a long-healed scar, physical or emotional, may cause pain.

I still get misty now and then, thinking of our very first Sheltie. He died over 3 years ago of heart failure and we planted a tree in our back yard as a memorial to him.

His memorial to us was to get us involved with Sheltie Rescue, which we still help with today. If it weren't for him, we never would be where we are now. Every Sheltie we help has the faint shadow of our Brownie behind him, grinning and wagging his tail in love and pride.

My chiuaua died when i was eleven she was twelve. i always think about them. recently my grandma died and i was so upset i thought of how much she loved dogs so i went out and got to great pomeranians from an amazing breeder i owe her averything and i also owe my dogs every thing for the past two month my life has been great and i have been much more fuflilling because i no i have to be there for the poms and thier there for me

I miss my English Cocker Spaniel. We had to put him to sleep three years ago as he was gravely ill. Probably the worst moment in my life. He was my best friend and my life. Without him , it's like having one leg and one arm. So far I can't bring myself to owning another dog as I do not want to go through the pain of losing it again. They say time reduces the pain, but for me it doesn't seem to be working.

Re: Do you ever miss a dog even though they have been gone for a long time?

I always thought that time was supposed to lessen the pain of grief. But sometimes I will think about Flip and start crying all over again.

He's the dog we had when I was a kid. I think I've mentioned him on some other threads maybe. He was a rough collie who lived to be 15. He had gotten a little arthritic, and his hearing wasn't as good as it used to be. He fell in my dad's small pond one winter, when my dad was the only one home, and my dad didn't hear it or see it happen. He was too arthritic and I guess he couldn't make it to the little step my dad had put in the pond in case that happened... He drowned. I still think about him. I know he was at the end of his life, but I hate thinking about how scared he must have been, and how the last moments should have been with me, not alone and cold.

Re: Do you ever miss a dog even though they have been gone for a long time?

Years ago, when I was a yougn boy in Iowa we had a Welsh corrgi
My grandfather found her at the side of the road out in the country.
He had her for about ten years and figured that the dog was at least 4 years of age.. That would have made the year 1946. 1963 we laid her to rest.
Strange thing Our pets, they comfort us when we are sad make us laugh and even cry. As an adult I have had Two Irish setters and four Black and tan coon hounds. I prefer the Black and tan coon hound. They are more family type for us. We laid our "Loving Sierra to rest the day before my birthday in January" I don't know what it is about dogs, As a vetern of vietnam, I could walk over someone that had got hit. But if I saw a dog at the side of the road. I would cry and bury it. Even to this day, I have more feelings for dogs than I do for people. My daughter gave me a magnet that reads " The more people I meet, The more I love my Coon hound" I tear up everytime I think of our Sierra But I know that she is in No pain and is playing with the other dogs that were members of our family. If you noticed I refuse to say owned!
I don't own a family member, "they are family and can't be owned"
Just enjoy them while you have them.

Re: Do you ever miss a dog even though they have been gone for a long time?

I had a dog since before I was born (he was 6 when I was born) and when we had to put him down, it was heart-wrenching. Duncan was the strangest looking dog there ever was. He actually looked exactly like a dingo/wolf mix. A true Heinz 57, his health declined until when he was 17 he had neurological problems to the point where he couldn't control his bladder and was falling down and couldn't eat anymore. He was originally abandoned for being "untrainable" though we trained him after 2 years.

You can never replace the dog you lost, and although I have two new dogs, they are not the same. Each dog is a person that has a different personality that you learn to love.

My mom had to put our family cats down a long, long time ago...and I still find myself crying sometimes because I miss them. Two in particular, my first kitty ever, then a kitty we had when I was older but used to lay on my stomach each night and purr and purr and purr. Oh now I'm sad, lol.
