Miss Kitty

I am still in shock. Erik called me at work last night and he kept calling so I knew something was up. I called himback and he said, "I didnt want to tell you this at work, but Chance broke down the gate to the gate room.....and Miss Kitty is dead." I still cant stop crying. I cant believe I didnt find her a home. I feel like such an idiot. I feel like this is my fault. I cant forgive Chance yet, and I never even got to see her, my brother went over there and took her, he didnt want me to have to see her. There were 2 pools of blood on the carpet, and hair everywhere. The walls...the door...the litterbox. I can tell she stuggled. How can I go on knowing my dog killed my cat?

Rest in Peace Miss Kitty, I am so sorry I couldnt save your life

Oh no Jenn...I am SOOO sorry. I don't even know what to say. I don't know how you will forgive Chance, but you will. You have given so much for him, and you will forgive him.

I am so sorry you have to go through this. You will be in my thoughts all day.

Much love to you, Jenn.

Hello,
I am so sorry for your loss. Chance needs a catless home. Trying to forgive him now is pointless as long as you have two other cats in danger. I just lost a cat I had for 18 years. I was lucky my dog worshiped the ground she walked on, not to pick on Chance, the dog can not help it's nature. Please do consider a new home for Chance for your whole family's sake. My heart goes out to you.

Poor Miss Kitty, poor Jenn. You will forgive Chance and I hope you can forgive yourself. In all your posts about Miss Kitty I really didn't see this coming. How are your other cats with Chance?

Re: Miss Kitty

Chance has always hated Miss Kitty. I have had the other two since they were kittens and he met Toby when he was a puppy and Mittens when Mittens was a kitten, so he loves them. He has NEVER likes Miss Kitty and Miss Kitty has always hissed at him and been scared of him. She met him when she was 2. Im worried for my other cats... Do you think he will be okay with them?

I cannot even fathom giving up Chance right now. I just lost my cat, I dont need to lose my dog too. For the time being he is crated whenever I am not within 2 feet of him, and he will be getting a trainer right away.

Thanks guys

No, Jenn, Chance is where he belongs. You have been through so much with him. He may never be totally trustworthy with the cats. You will have to work it out...he may need to be crated or locked in a separate room any time you are not home. You will work it out.

Re: Miss Kitty

Oh Jen, I'm so sorry! Its hard to look at a dog that has killed another pet as a friendly pet. But remember he didn't know how much you cared for Miss Kitty, He just knew that she bothered him and his instint was telling him to deal with it.

I would keep an eye out with him and the other cats. If here hasn't been an issue in the past, I doubt that this would change anything, but better safe then sorry.

Again I'm sorry for your loss. Good luck with the trainer and good luck with Chance.

Re: Miss Kitty

I'm so sorry Jenn! I've been sitting here trying to imagine what I'd do if one of my dogs killed one of my cats...I honestly don't know what my reaction would be...and its hard to even get passed the thought of it. I'm so sorry this happened.

You'll be in my thoughts. ((hugs))

I have to echo this post...I could forgive the dog after awhile, but never could I consider keeping him in a household after he actually killed a feline...your other two 'could' be okay, but then again...I just couldn't take that risk. That's just me though.

I am sooooooooo sorry this happened. No words can express the shock and dismay I felt when I read your post...chills down my spine...i am so sorry!!!

Re: Miss Kitty

Thank you all for your kind words. I have spoken to both a vet and a trainer, and while the vet says to seperate them indefinately, and to speak to a trainer, the trainer says that the saying, "Once a dog gets the taste of blood in its mouth, its a killer forever," is a myth. She asked me ever question she could think of about Chance and the other 2 cats, and because they were fine before, and they are fine now, she sees them being ok.

Miss Kitty lived with Eriks stepsister for the first 2 years of her life. She used to have run of the house, and their two dobermans stayed out back. She would lock Miss Kitty in the master bathroom, and let the dogs inside, and Miss Kitty would tease them under the door and then bring her paw back under. The trainer said that because she did this, she was never properly taight how to coexist with dogs. Now that she saw Chance face to face and didnt have a door to hide behind, she put off such a pheremone of fear, that Chance perceived her as prey.

I will take it one day at a time, and Chance is crated when I am not 2 feet away from him. But he has walked up to Toby and licked him, and he has also played with Mittens, so I am hoping this was just a tracig accident, and I am enrolling him in training classes to hopefully prevent this from happening in the future.

thank you all again for your kind words.

Re: Miss Kitty

Oh, Im so sorry Jenn Poor Miss Kitty. At least now she can stay as far away from dogs as she wants to.

I agree that "once a dog has tasted blood they will always be killers" is a myth. Since Chance has never treated the other 2 cats like he treated Miss Kitty I think it will work out. Of course Im not going to say that he will be 100% ok with your other cats because no one can say that for sure. I would keep an eye on him and never leave him with cats when no one is there, not even after training him more. You wouldnt want to give the opportunity for it to happen again.

Jenn, I am so sorry you have to go through this. Rest in Peace Miss Kitty.
