It does. I know time will help it heal. Thank you for all the comfort and advice you've given us. It means so much.

Thanks SDO. He was hugged, snuggled, and slept beside all night last night and again this morning.

I am saddened to hear of Lizzie's passing. It's true, with time the grief will lessen and the happy memories will fill your heart.

I am so sorry. You and Lizzie are in my thoughts.

Re: Lizzy

I just found this thread. I'm really sorry for your loss. It must have been really hard for you and your fiance. I don't mean to bring back sad memories but I thoughht i just saw her pic you posted only few days ago.
I don't know what to say but I bet she had a great life with you. Hope you and your fiance feel better soon and overcome this guilt and grief.

Re: Lizzy

I'm so sorry that you lost Lizzie in the prime of her life. No words can explain the grief you must be experiencing.

Perhaps now you will install a fence? It's a hard lesson learned but I would never trust a dog to stay by the property. I know this may not be the time to bring it up but it should be a warning to other dog owners who don't have a fenced yard and let their dogs out without a leash.

Actually we have a fenced yard. The day she got hit she learned how to jump it. My SO had put her in the fenced area to go to the bathroom and ran back inside to grab something. Gone no more than 5 minutes tops. She saw something (we guess, lots of rabbits and squirels where we are) jumped the fence, chased it the 500 yards to the road and got hit. Completley atypical to her behavior. She never jumped before that day, never roamed away from the house (of course we were out with her so maybe that's why), and wouldn't normally run more than 10 feet without stopping because she would get tired. We know it is still our fault. Trust me we feel that exceedingly and will never make that mistake again. You are right that her death should sound a warning with other owners. It only took a second to lose her and I will never forget it.

Re: Lizzy

Oh, forgive my rudeness! Sorry, I didn't know you had a fence. That is pretty amazing that a breed of dog that short and heavy would be able to get off the ground to jump a 6 foot fence.

It's okay Durbkat. I know you weren't trying to be rude, just trying to help others not make the same mistake. The fence is only about 4 feet tall, not 6. Still we never in a million years thought that she would be able to jump it, but somehow she did.
