| RIP Ginger :( Hey everyone, I am new to these forums. But, I joined just to say that I had my 14 year old Chocolate Lab put to sleep this morning. I don't know if I'm going to get over it. Her bed is still where she slept, we just emptied her food and water containers. My mom wanted to throw away her leash but I told her I wanted to keep it. Its so hard to just walk in the door and she's not there barking at you or waiting for you. I can't help but cry every time I see her leash or bed. I don't think we are going to get another dog because I am in college, and my parents don't want another one. This is so hard. Its hard to let go when something had been in your life for a whole 14 years, then is gone.... Everything changes..... |

| Re: RIP Ginger :( I'm so sorry. I know the pain is enormous and engulfing. It will get better, but that doesn't help now. Again, I'm very sorry for your loss. Just know, she's not in pain and you did the right thing. |

| Re: RIP Ginger :( I just watched home videos of her when she was a puppy, I was about 10 years old. It made me feel alot better. I believe we are having her cremated. I think we are going to sprinkle her ashes in the woods behind my house since that was her favorite place to be.. |

| Re: RIP Ginger :( The animal rest home sent me a sweet card that said,
"Rainbow Bridge"
Just this side of heaven is a place called rainbow bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet does to rainbow bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed, are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your hear. |

| Re: RIP Ginger :( I know exactly how you feel. My dog was just put to sleep this morning because of his legs giving out and cancer. I entered my house and didn't hear him bark or anything, and I know exactly how much it hurts. Remember all the good times |

| Re: RIP Ginger :( Gosh, it is NEVER easy putting our loved ones to rest. I think it is one of the HARDEST things we will ever have to do. Your pets are always there for you despite everything else going on in our lives;they never question, wonder, or judge-they are there to put their soft muzzle in your lap and love us unconditionally
14 years is a long time for any dog, especially Labs. I am sure Ginger is missing you as much as you are missing her. Just keep in mind she is at peace and is comfortable. I wouldn't rush out and give her things away even if you don't get another dog. Those were HER things. Keep them close to you for as long as you need them, and in time maybe you can pass them on to a dog just as deserving as Ginger. It takes time to grieve. I had to put my dalmatian to sleep after 13 years last February because of a massive tumor in her chest and I still shed tears at times. I put her dog tag on my key ring so that she will always be with me. It helps. I also have pictures of her around the house and on the puter at happier times and that is a great comfort I think sprinkling her ashes where she loved to be is a great idea! She will be where she was happiest, and always there where you remember her. Let the mourning time take as long as it needs too. You are not alone. RIP Ginger and hugs to you Egungon
DallasAM, I am so sorry for your loss as well. Boy, the process we go through for the ones we love can be both gratifying and exhausting on us can't it? I know the memories are what help us through the most. You are in our thoughts
