Re: Put my dog to sleep today - heartbroken

Hi , i feel so sorry for you i do know how you feel people do say this but i had my dog charlie put to sleep two days ago and i feel sick. I used to let her out every morning when i got up feed her and up till last yeear used to take her for walks but her legs were getting really weak so had stopped taking her. I feel sad sick and guilty for having her put to sleep . My old dog was starting to have problems eating after she had been put to sleep they found a tumour in her mouth but even this doesnt make it any better ive been crying a lot but i am trying to tell my self it was for the best but its hard. when the vet came out i nearly wanted to say go away but i knew she was getting weaker she would never let us look in her mouth but i did think there was something horrible in there has she had really bad breath for a few months. I am probably not helping but think of the happy times and it will get easier i m just like you and i keep looking at the sofa where my charlie slept . That is the worst feeling when you have to move stuff thats connecteed like your stairgates i do feel for you . Its good that you have work and your not sitting there all day . It is helping me coming on here knowing i am not the only one to be missing there beloved dog have you read the poem that somebody has put on here it will help i am going to have another read if i can find it. my children are grown up to so house does feel bit empty. so sad for you .

Re: Put my dog to sleep today - heartbroken

I woke up to my twelve year old Pom Scully hemorrhaging from her nose. She had a nasal tumor which finally overcame her. I really did not want another dog when my wife brought this one home, but she grew on me real fast. I think the hardest part is the silence when I came home. I brought her home and buried her in the yard. I don't think I cried as much when my dad died.

Thank you. I posted at Rainbow Bridge. Her name was Scully. I would add a picture, but haven't figured out how yet.

Re: Put my dog to sleep today - heartbroken

Boy can i relate. We just had to put down our almost 13 year old westie last Wednesday. I knew it would be hard even though we could see her time coming. She had battled liver problems for the last 4 years. But I never thought the hole this little dog would leave in our lives would be so dramatic. So many everyday things are not the same and the house is so empty. I joined this to talk with others because not everyone can relate to the pain & the loss of losing your best buddy.

Re: Put my dog to sleep today - heartbroken

The Power of a Dog

There is sorrow enough in the natural way From men and women to fill our day; and when we are certain of sorrow in store, Why do we always arrange for more? Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy Love unflinching that cannot lie- Perfect passion and worship fed By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head. Nevertheless it is hardly fair To risk your heart for a dog to tear

When the fourteen years which Nature permits Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits, And the vet's unspoken prescription runs To lethal chambers or loaded guns, Then you will find - it's your own affair- But... you've given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will, With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!) When the spirit that answered your every mood Is gone - wherever it goes - for good, You will discover how much you care, And will give your heart to a dog to tear.

We've sorrow enough in the natural way, When it comes to burying Christian Clay. Our loves are not given, but only lent, At compound interest of cent per cent. Though it is not always the case, I believe, That the longer we've kept 'em, the more do we grieve:

For, when debts are payable, right or wrong, A short time loan is as bad as a long- So why in - Heaven (before we are there) Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

Rudyard Kipling.
