| My Uncle's 2 year old MinPin died 10-28-07. He got ran over, On sunday night at around 6:30p.m. My Uncle Donnie's ( Donald ) 2 year old MinPin got ran over by a car. My Uncle was letting Max ( the dog ) out to use the bathroom and he turned around to check on his other MinPin, Zeta, and Max ran off into the middle of the street. They yelled for him, but he didn't know any better and kept going. My Uncle called us to tell us at about 7:06p.m. and we started to cry. We just got attached to the little things because we petsat them for a month. August-September. Then we went to his house on Saturday afternoon. We we're playing with Max and Zeta and they were licking us and we told them that we loved them. We got home and he called the night later and said that he got completely ran over by the car and that the car didn't stop. He saw it all happen. He's still heartbroken. He came to our house yesterday because Zeta would'nt eat. Then he bought a 12 week old MinPin named Donald...lol! Zeta played for awhile and then perked right up. I gave my Uncle some pictures of Max that I had because he only had a couple of them. He started crying when he was looking through them. Then I asked him if he needed a hug. He said yes and started to cry on my shoulder. Zeta is still a little sad though. You can tell. Today my Uncle Donnie invited us over to carve pumpkins. He was crying as we left. He said that Zeta ran out into the street today too! It was so horrible, it gave him flashbacks. They chased her all the way down the street. It's so sad though because when you go to his house it's all quiet and the grave is so sad. I haven't gotton any sleep since Thursday night! I'm so tired...I've been crying a lot about Max too. Well, I have to go do some homework and then go to bed. But write to me if you can! |

Maybe if you can suggest to your uncle that they need to be on a lead so It doesn't happen again. Does he have a yard or somewhere the dogs can do their business? Sending heart-healing vibes out to you and your family. |

I guess it's just me, but I think owners should care more about their pets than to let them run loose. And then when one gets smashed on the road, I expect them to run out and buy a LEASH, not a replacement dog. And I certainly don't expect them to let their surviving dog loose *right after the other one was killed.*
I'm glad your uncle is putting up a fence. A little bit like closing the barn door after the horses have escaped, but hopefully he won't contribute to any more dogs dying unneccessarily on the road.
My sympathy is where it is deserved: with the poor dog, who's owner didn't have enough sense to keep him on a leash or safely behind a fence. My sympathy is also with the driver of the car who was doing nothing wrong other than driving legally down the road. I do not feel sorry for someone who puts their dog in harms way and then the inevitable happens.

Ok...my uncle did not put max in harms way!!! He loved and cared for Max so much!!! You don't even know. He didn't go out and buy a replacement dog either! Zeta wouldn't eat. She was starving herself. So he bought a puppy and she perked up and was doing better. He isn't doing any better than the day it happened! He also didn't let the female loose either. He went to walk out the door and she ran out from beneath him. So don't turn things around onto him!!My uncle also had a lot of sense. He didn't put Max in harm. It's not his fault!!! Thanks alot for making me feel so much better. I thought if you put a pet in the pet memorial section people would try to help and comfort you and your family. Not put them down for something that's not totally their fault. I agree that he should of put a leash on them but I do not agree that it is his fault or that he bought a replacement or that he has no sense and everything else that you said. I am sorry you feel this way. But if you are going to respond to something like this in a rude way then please do not respond at all. Thanks for trying, but it DIDN'T really work!!! |

I would think they would of seen him with headlights or I don't know. It's not the car drivers fault if he didn't know. But I wish it wouldn't of happened that way. Thanks for your comfort. It really helps. |

I do extend my sympathies to you as well. I'm sure you loved the dog very much and it's awful that you now have to grieve over the loss of this dog. It would crush me if my brother's dog died...esp in such a preventable way. |

| Re: My Uncle's 2 year old MinPin died 10-28-07. He got ran over, Well since we don't seem to understand how its not his fault for leashing his dogs or having a complete fence to prevent the dog from getting to the street, then explain how it isn't his fault since he could have prevented it from happening? Also if he had the dogs for two years he should have known if the dog was a door darter that will try to escape everytime the door is open then he should have closed the door. Like lovemygreys said I feel said for the dog, but not how the owner handled something that could have been fixed. |

He doesn't even say thank you. The last time I told him to keep his dog inside or keep him on a leash. Even though he has a big yard he lets his dog roam. Quote:

You can't trust a dog no mater how much you "think" they're going to come running back. Most dogs that see an animal is going to go over to see them. I know my dogs would. This is why most states/cities now have leash laws.
I am sorry that this dog was hit by a car, but you have to remember "leash" next time a dog is let out. |

I'm really upset about that too, but now he has learned from that mistake. It might have been in a really horrible way, but now he has put up a fence, and only lets them in that area. He also watches them while they're behind the fence. So I do agree with you about the leash situation. Thanks for your support.... |
