| In memory of Sweetie 10/23/2007 Today there was a great loss for my family. Our 15 yr old Basset Hound, Sweetie, was laid to rest at 3 PM. My family is heartbroken, she will be missed greatly.
She was found in a field left to die with cancer, 5 years ago. I adopted her in May 2007, and she grew into our hearts as fast as anyone possibly could. She left this world with her boots on, wagging her tail and happy. |

Your pain is such right now that it might be small comfort in knowing that at the Rainbow Bridge, she is no longer sick or in pain. She is young and healthy again. She will always be with you and watching over her family.
So sorry for your loss.

| Re: In memory of Sweetie 10/23/2007 Ok so it's been a month today since Sweetie passed on...I've had some dreams, mostly nightmares about it, but other than that we are coping. My 4 year old keeps asking me if she's coming home and I tell him why she can't and he cries that he wants her back...and the "why can't we keep her, I love her Mom" kills me...he's been a bit out of sorts too, kind of abusive to my other Basset hound recently (he kicked him in the face the other day for "bothering" him - of course he got into big trouble for it) but it seems like he's acting out because of what has happened?
I'm still trying to not feel guilty, to some degree, my 4 yr old blames me for Sweetie going away...so that adds to the guilt.
Has anyone else dealt with acting out due to the death of a pet...how did you deal with it? |

| Re: In memory of Sweetie 10/23/2007 I feel bad. We're leaving on Monday for New York...and I feel like I"m leaving Sweetie behind here in Arizona. It's been 3 months since she was PTS tomorrow (my birthday) and I guess it's just still a really painful subject. Everyone keeps bringing her up, even my neighbor next door made a snide comment that "they had another dog but it disappeared" - she was talking on the phone on their porch which is connected to ours while I was getting dog food...I hate people.
Has anyone else felt like they were leaving their loved one behind because they were moving out of state? |

I've never moved out of state...I'm lived in the same town my entire life so I haven't had to be in that position. I'm sorry that you have to go through that though and my thoughts are with you. |

| Re: In memory of Sweetie 10/23/2007 ((((((Hugs))))) for your sorrow. I still greatly miss my sheltie and he's been gone a year. I'd cry by myself for months after I had him PTS.
Is your son maybe anxious over the move east, but in a youngster's way takes it out on something else--losing a pet?
Might be weird idea, but maybe the library has some books for children on dealing with death of family member (or pet in this case). My girlfriend seems to find books on topics I would never think to check the library. |

| Re: In memory of Sweetie 10/23/2007 I didnt realize that you recently lost your Sweetie. I remember you speaking of her. ((hugs))
I have left lots of pets behind where I grew up. I still go to the spot every once in awhile and sit with them. We have an old family cemetary and right across the road is the pet cemetary, My brothers and I started that cemetary 33 years ago when my Buster died. Before I left home there were 11 dogs 13 cats, lizards, mice the cats killed,a duck and a armadillo that a freinds dad shot. We would make concrete pads in 5 gallon buckets and make headstones. To this day the kids and adults bury thier non human loved ones there. 3 years ago, I visited and they had 57 headstones.
I wish I could help you with how you feel about leaving Sweetie since it is still so "new" Just cherish the memories, Look at those pictures of Sweetie and that adorable son of yours.
Have a safe trip to New York. And make sure you do something really mean and nasty in a nice way to your neighbors. Meanies. |

| Re: In memory of Sweetie 10/23/2007 I have had to leave dogs before, and it is hard, but just remember she isn't leaving you, and no matter where you go she will be there in your heart. |
