Seeing dogs, after their gone,,,

O.K., I'll delve into a subject some are going to find strange.

I lost my beloved dog of 14 years a year ago January, she died in my arms.

Last evening, as I was going to bed, I saw her going for her the water bowl that is still out for my other dogs.

I know there are skeptics out there (I'm one of them). This is not the first time I have had an entity visit me.

When I was a kid, I thought I was imagining things, then as time passed and I became an adult, I thought I was nuts, then about 10 years ago when I started to research the subject and severely alter my living situation, things really started to get interesting. Wall hangings popped off of the wall, the dishwasher door flew open and shut for no reason, all sorts of things happened that really got my attention.

I guess I'm just searching for anyone out there that has had a similar experience with their lost pets.

Re: Seeing dogs, after their gone,,,

I have not seen my deceased dogs while I was actually awake but, for 17 years after I put down a great Irish Setter (at an advanced age) I had regular, extremely vivid dreams about her. In those dreams she was running and swimming and being generally robust, which is how she was for most of her life. Then I'd wake up and it was just like losing her all over again. I believe I was slowly losing my mind.

This happened at least several times each month until we got another great dog. (Not a replacement - just another great dog.)

I certainly won't try to diminish what you've experienced, but I think sometimes our mind responds to extreme grief by showing us what we want to see.

You have my sympathy and understanding. The grief never disappears but, with time (a great deal of time) it becomes bearable.

Hmm... you know... I had an odd experience when I was about 10 years old. It might have just been my imagination, but I'm still not sure. It was not long after our Siamese cat ran away. I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get back to sleep. I was lying on my bed for a little bit, and then I thought I heard something on the top bunk (I was sleeping on the bottom bed of a bunk bed.) After a few seconds I saw a cat jump off the bed and land on the floor. I stared at it for a little bit, I was really shocked, since we had no other pet cats besides our Siamese one that ran away. The cat stared at me for a few seconds and then turned and ran out of my room. I jumped up and looked outside my bedroom, but I couldn't see the cat anywhere. I went back to bed assuming it was a dream... Maybe it was..? I still don't know.

I also thought I was losing my sanity, especially as I got older. These things happening just made no sense. Keep in mind that I am probably the biggest skeptic doing this post.

My experiences have been happening since childhood, I sometimes see and hear people and animals that I never knew. I have learned the hard way to just play along with the game. Otherwise strange things happen, like wall hangings popping off of the wall and dishwasher doors fly open and closed for no reason.

I've had similar feelings/experiences. Sometimes it's a fleeting movement out of the corner of my eye...sometimes it's the way one of our current dogs moves or holds their head in the distance...sometimes its a sound or just an overwhelming feeling of their presence. Most likely, it's my heart missing them and my brain remembering them...no matter what the "reason" or "reality" is...those moments - no matter how brief - are comforting to me.

I've had those experiences for years. Entities from beyond are visiting you!

Re: Seeing dogs, after their gone,,,

human mind is one of the most enigmatic things. it can create experiences that will feel real, while some reasons are external(heavy drugs) some are internal, i,ve never experiensed any of those things, but some ppl i know did, and will i,m sure, i don,t deny you felt it, but was it real? than again it was real to you, i,ve seen ppl having these experiences in my presents, i didn,t see a thing but they did. i think your dog is still in your mind, and mind is playing tricks on you. i don,t think it is entitys from beyond, i think it is entitys from within, you yourself create them,

very common and simple example is phantom pain, ppl who lost their limb, feel like it is still there and it hurts.

Re: Seeing dogs, after their gone,,,

I agree with you that the mind can play tricks.

When I was 12 years old, my mother was very ill. At the time, I didn't know how ill she was with cancer. We were very close and no one in the family wanted to tell me how badly things were going, and I never really knew.

The night she died, I had a vision in the darkness, one of her trying to keep the casket she was in from closing on her. When my father woke me the same morning, I instantly knew what he was going to say, that she had died that night.

This and other things like dishwasher doors flying open and closed for no reason, wall hangings flying off of the wall, voices calling my name, visions of dead people during the day and night, all seem to difficult to comprehend, especially if you are the skeptic that I am.

I know very well what some think about all of this. I think skeptical things when ever something happens! The events however, are undeniable.

Re: Seeing dogs, after their gone,,,

I just lost my english bulldog this past feb. A couple nights later I had a very vivid dream about him being ok and not in any pain anymore. Then as I was sitting in the spare room, upstairs, I could smell him. He's never been upstairs before. He couldn't climb stairs. But it was very real. I think they come back to tell you everything is ok.

Re: Seeing dogs, after their gone,,,

A week after my cat died last January I was lying in bed one morning thinking about her and how empty the house was without her when I heard a cat meowing. I thought I was cracking up, but there was a cat sitting outside our front door begging to come in! I let her in for a bit and all she wanted to do was play with one of my cat's toy mouse for a bit. She stayed outside our house all that day and came to visit us a couple of times a week until her kittens were born (three months to the day my cat died) in April. One of them is a girl who has the same colouring as my cat (the other three were black and white and male) and some part of me can't help thinking it's my Dancer's spirit come back to me. The other part of me thinks I'm just engaging in wishful thinking...

Re: Seeing dogs, after their gone,,,

well ever since i was little ive had strange things happen. i would be asleep at night and hear someone yell my name in my ear. it was a man and it scared me a lot. i would pull the blankets over my head and not look. one night i left a bowl on the end table in the living room and started shutting off lights to go to bed and when i shut off the last light i could hear the spoon in the bowl tapping, and it got louder and faster. i ran to my parents room and woke them up crying that something was going on, my father came down and the bowl was across the room upside down and he told me "it was probably a mouse" yeah.... mighty mouse dad...... but we did have a dog once, Tawnee. she ran away one day, and we didnt see her ever again. but one day, i was riding the lawnmower (yes, i was little and my parents would sit outside and let me ride it around without the mower off pretending it was a car) and i swore i could see her standing at the edge of the woods next to our house. and i kept staring, and she looked at me... and then... i hit my swingset. i screamed, jumped off, my father jumped on and stopped it. i bent the swingset right in half... but when i looked back, she was gone. and i told my mom, and she just said, "its ok, your dad isnt mad". but yeah, i have many more stories that are a lot more... "physical" but i wont blabber on...

I believe that. When my cat Callie was PTS, that night and the night after I heard her meowing and saw glimpses of her a few times, I believe she came back to say she was ok and happy. After that night and the next day, I never saw or heard her again.

Re: Seeing dogs, after their gone,,,

My mother generally has to get up to go to the bathroom every morning at about 4am, an hour before the alarm goes off. When we had our cat, she would sleep with me until my mom made that trip to the bathroom, at which point she would jump off my bed and head to the kitchen, where she would harass my mother until she got something to eat.

Spot died in May, but just a couple of days ago my mom said she hears the cat hit the floor every morning when she gets up to use the bathroom. Of course the cat never appears, but she hears the not-so-graceful thud at 4am every day. My mother insists my cat is still sleeping with me every night.

Re: Seeing dogs, after their gone,,,

Three months ago my rescue cat, Mr.Kitty, went missing.
3 weeks before he went missing he got bit by a snake ( Mr.kitty had no effects to the bit expect his side swelled up but thats it, he still ate fine and had his regular potty breaks during the day) and my dad swears up and down that the snake that bit him also ate my cat. My cat was HUGE! Not your average size house cat.
Well when Mr.Kitty disappeared I was visiting my mom's house one weekend and my dad was gone on that Saturday, when he got home that night my cat was missing. We always let Mr.Kitty outside during the day and he would stay on the back porch, and he would come inside at night time.
I got home on Sunday and my dad said Mr.Kitty was missing. For 2 weeks after he went missing I could hear him in our barn meowing every night. I would go check the barn and he was never there. Whether he is alive or dead, I believe he watches me when I'm outside at night.

I lost my Goldie about 1 year and a half ago. She loved to sleep in my bed with me. My husband did not like it very much so she would sleep with her paws straight up in the air so they he couldn't feel her in the bed between us. The night she passed away I could feel her in my bed with us and she continues to come to visit my warm and cozy bed every now and then. She will always be welcome and I hope she continues to snuggle up with her Mommy whenever she wants. I don't see her..... I just know she is there.

Re: Seeing dogs, after their gone,,,

I am getting huge amounts of comfort seeing my beloved dog.

We were very close, and she got me through so many difficult times. I really don't know what I would have done without her by my side.

When I lost her, I was really worried that I wasn't going to make it through the experience. I completely collapsed more times than I can count with grief, and cried for a week day and night.
Even though I had two other dogs, after three months and things getting worse, that's when a four month old pup came into the picture. Just what was needed.

I wish my old sheltie would come and visit me and let me know he's fine in Heaven

But then, maybe he's too happy and comfortable laying under a shade tree in Heaven with a gentle breeze ruffling his fur.
