| In Memory of my dog elmo....please help! I lost my rottweiler dog elmo. He was only about 10 years old and he died on March 9th, 2007! The pet food that was recalled is what killed him. We didn't know about the recall until the 16th of march and then we found out that's what killed him. My family went out to eat with their grandmother and I went to babysit. Elmo was in the house by the front door, and as I was waithing for my ride to pick me up I gave him a kiss on the nose and told him I loved him very much. Then I promised him that I would see him when I got home. Well, my family came home to Elmo laying on the floor by the from door.
They wouldn't answer the phone for my because they knew I was babysitting and wouldn't want to hear about him dieing at that moment. So when I got home I never did get to see him. Our grandma and her family stayed and helped us with the memorial. I saw him right before we burried him, it was cold, and i pet him one last time as I was crying. I still cry about it and want to know what to do! Will you please help me? |

I'm not sure what you are asking help with, but I would be willing to try if you could just clarify a bit. |

| Re: In Memory of my dog elmo....please help! Im sorry about you pup. It is terrible with the recall and all.. That was a very scary time for alot of people. So unfortunate that it had to happen to you. Your Elmo is safe at the rainbow bridge. Having fun and playing with all the other dogs there. I think my pups that have died are waiting for me when I pass. It makes me unafraid of dying myself one day. Knowing they are there and I will see them again makes life much easier to live without them. |

| Re: In Memory of my dog elmo....please help! I'm so sorry about your loss It's sad, but I really don't think there is anything you can do, if you're thinking of wanting to sue or get damages or something? Is that what you are asking for help with (I apologize profusely if that is not what you meant!).
On the bright side, 10 years is actually quite old for a rotty, and I'm sure he lived a happy and full life with you and your family, and was very much loved. I know how hard it can be, I lost my rotty in almost the same way (came home to find him lying outside cold and hard )...he was only about four years old and we've no idea what happened to him. It was in 2004, and to make matters worse, I was leaving the next day to go abroad for a year, kinda put a damper on things!
*hugs* |

| Re: In Memory of my dog elmo....please help! What really helped me when we lost our lab was to talk about him. This memorial forum is a perfect place to tell stories about your dog, post pictures if you are able and just generally let us know why he was the best dog ever.
What you're feeling is natural and you don't ever really outgrow it. I'm an old guy and I cry like a baby when I lose a good dog. But it does help to tell those stories.
BTW, this is the memorial story I posted for my lab. It was a year-and-a-half after we lost him (and I joined dog forums) and it still helped. http://www.dogforums.com/18-pet-memo...-dogzilla.html (Cubby AKA Dogzilla)

| Re: In Memory of my dog elmo....please help! Thanks for all of your support! He was the best dog, and knowing now that he is up there on the rainbow bridge does help me for when I know I'll die. He's up there with a lot of my other pets also! There really isn't anything I can do but talk to people and remember him for all the reasons I loved him!! I'm so sorry Princess Mia that you lost your rotty like that. I would have been so miserable if I had to leave the next day too! I'm really sorry. And digits mama thanks for your support. It really was a terrible time. ronE I will read your story. Thanks sooo much! This really helps.
Oh, also, if you guys want to tell any stories about your dogs...i would love to hear them. I'm a big animal lover. lol So tell as many stories as you want!!

| Re: In Memory of my dog elmo....please help! I am so very sorry for your loss. I lost my precious Samantha on April 9th, 2005, at 2PM. She was just short of her 2nd birthday. It started with little pimples on her belly. Vet said it was an allergic reaction of sorts, and gave her steroids. I was to the vet's two days later, she was worse. I went to two specialists. I was running around with her in my arms, begging for answers. I spent over 2K and would have spent another 20K, but she died at the emergency room, within a week of the "pimples".
The specialist called for an autopsy, I agreed, but it was inconclusive. I don't know what took my baby girl. I still cry daily for her. I miss her so very much.
The pain never goes away. Just gets bareable.
Take comfort in knowing you gave your baby ten wonderful years of a happy, family life. You will meet again.

| Re: In Memory of my dog elmo....please help! Oh, Debbie, thanks so much for the comfort and support! I really do feel bad for your Samantha, and you! If there was anything I could do I would but the only thing I can do is support you. Samantha and you will meet again too. My baby elmo and your samantha are probably playing together on the rainbow bridge! |

It is always hard to lose a loved companion. I am so sorry that your loss was a result of the horrible dog food recall. I can't even imagine how I would react to losing a dog to that terrible mishap. I would be looking for answers, too. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. |

| Re: In Memory of my dog elmo....please help! Um...not to doubt that it was the recalled dog food, but did you ever get a necropsy done on your dog to confirm it?
At 10 years old, your dog could have simply just been 'spent'.
Or given the time frame, he may have experienced a heart attack, anurism, blood clot or anything along that lines; from what I know of the dog food recall deaths, the dogs have died very dramatically, and painfully, due to the stomach problems brought on by the foods; and you have not given any details of how your Elmo slipped away. |

It helps a lot when people respond saying really nice things about what happened. It was a terrible mishap. But thanks again! |
