| Closed thread I'm wondering if I did something wrong that caused a thread to be closed. I seldom start threads, but I started one today in hopes of finding some common ground that board members could agree on, and maybe come up with some creative ideas from that base. This is in the General forum. One of the moderators closed the thread after only two pages, and after what seemed like a fairly civil discussion. It was really just getting started.
The moderator said it was being closed for the night, but I'm watching it go further and further down the list, and by tomorrow, no one will even notice it. Great way to kill a thread.
I'm feeling rather discouraged and am loathe to start any other discussions - at least until I find out what I did wrong. Can someone please explain? It's hard to understand how some of the very heated threads about s/n laws is allowed to continue, while my "baby" thread was squashed. So it wouldn't seem that "heat" was the problem, and it sure isn't length - so what gives?
Respectfully,

People cannot be civil when discussing these subjects face to face... What makes you think its going to be any different online? |

First, I'd like to mention that this moderator, and I imagine the others as well, are available through PM if you ever have specific questions about an action, or inaction, we take. We won't argue and this forum is not a democracy, but we will clarify. I get 6-8 PMs each day and generally respond to them.
Nobody, not even me, wants to stifle honest debate. I personally feel that there are some important topics that simply don't need to be debated on a dog forum but, as long as there's an off-topic forum, there will be some non-dog topics.
The particular thread in question had slipped into some extreme name-calling and, in my judgement, needed a cooling-off period. My judgement isn't infallible - in fact, sometimes it's really awful* - but it's what I've got.

I just don't think that abortion can BE discussed civilly because of the beliefs of the parties involved.
All I can say, is I'm glad I didn't see this thread while it was active. |

| Re: Closed thread I think the reason that other thread was closed is because another member refused to stop freaking out for no reason on it, even though mods kept removing their irrational posts, so finally, mods were forced to close the thread to keep the peace.
But I could be wrong. >^^;< |

| Re: Closed thread Thank you for all the explanations, especially those offered by moderators. If there were posts that were out of line and therefore removed, logically I wouldn't have seen those. I saw no name calling, and am just really disappointed that an effort to find common ground, to find peaceful resolutions, to offer a hand of cooperation as opposed to the other threads where we were at each other's throats, would be like a breath of fresh air. That was my intent. I'm sorry it failed. |

| Re: Closed thread Thanks guys... Ugh I'd just wish I'd seen them.. The part that I was seeing was very clean and handled good (the beginning) But I didn't see all of it..
So was it really bad? Did anyone get banned b/c of it?
Anyways thanks for keeping this place better...

| Re: Closed thread Once again, the thread was closed because people started flaming each other and would not stop, regardless of warnings or how many times their offensive posts were deleted. It had nothing to do with the subject of the thread. |

| Re: Closed thread I suppose I could reopen the original closed thread, since it was my intention to close it for 12 hours or so while everyone cooled off.
Now I can't find it. I know it's here somewhere . . . |
