| The Quote Button . . . . . . is getting entirely too much use.
There is absolutely no reason to quote the entire original post when you respond to it. It's still there to refer to if anybody gets lost or confused.
Sometimes it will help clarify a response if you quote the specific passage that you're responding to. You can do that by using the quote button and then editing out the extraneous portions before you submit your response.
Let's pretend that we're saving trees but, instead, we'll save bandwidth. |

| Re: The Quote Button . . . I think most people do it cause it's the quickest way to get to the advanced respond page instead of this quick reply area at the bottom of the page. |

| Re: The Quote Button . . . Personally, I don't see the point in quoting the OP when you're the first to respond....BUT when the thread is 7 pages long and people are arguing, you may want to quote the OP to avoid getting yourself into an argument.
Is this a problem, Ron? (Not being sarcastic....seriously want to know if it's a problem/against a rule.) |

| Re: The Quote Button . . . Nope, it's not a question of rules. Nobody's likely to get banned for excessive quoting.
It's a question of form and function. Anything that makes a post easier to read is a courtesy to the readers. Anything that makes a post harder to read (hot pink fonts, no caps or punctuation or white space and quotes that are longer than the response) is distracting and shows a kind of disrespect to the other users.
I don't plan to lecture frequently on forum etiquette, but sometimes I just can't help myself. |
