Re: This has got to stop !!!!!!!.

Spam, in the context of a forum like this one, is the practice of registering for the express purpose of redirecting traffic to another website or email address which may, or may not, be dog-related.

If a regular user posts a link to an informational site about, say, dog food, it's not spam. If someone comes on here and, in their very first post, says, "Hey, check out the deals at www.too_cheap_to_pay_for_advertising.com" that's spam.

That should be inforced more often, I think. I get tired of every thread being turned into a way to pound the Bible over other member's heads and I'm a Christian. People need to be more tolerant of people who are different than they are. Many things said on this forum would just not fly at all on any other forum I've been on.

I feel so puny right now. Frankly I agree, but it gets so hard sometimes knowing exactly when grey is white, when everything should be black, or the other way around. But I've seen worse, and we definitely have our own character. I just wish we were less mouse house.

Re: This has got to stop !!!!!!!.

the problem with religion is that everyone thinks that they have the 'right' one & all the other guys are 'wrong'. discussing religious stuff always ends in a fight, so let's just agree to disagree.. this forum should remain fun & all the 'big guy' stuff should remain a personal matter.

You are missing the point...

The problem is that 80% of topics in OT turn into complete BS by the 20th reply regardless if its a religious topic or anything else. Somehow it always turns into garbage

It's not just here in OT, I've seen plenty of threads in other forums get pulled off topic or trashed by people.

Re: This has got to stop !!!!!!!.

I see no problem with people discussing religion.

Be an ADULT or at least have some sense about yourself though when discussing those topics.

As a mature being you should KNOW what topics about religion are acceptable to talk about with others that may not share your beliefs.

Re: This has got to stop !!!!!!!.

I agree with alpha be adult about things. the kids think they are being adult but if we figure out who are the kids then there must be a reason. they show lack of self control and take everything personal, most comments are made in general not directed at one person. I would join in on more conversations but as I watch it turns into someone getting upset for little or no reason. I also agree this forum is to have fun and learn and most people use it that way. the few that don't can make it uncomfortable for the rest.

Unfortunately, people don't seem to be able to remain adult about religious topics lately, judging by the thread I just saw closed. Good god. That was a hateful thread if I ever saw one.

Re: This has got to stop !!!!!!!.

I think that sometimes thread sort of go of topic and head into a branch of what the original topic was...however when things turn nasty it ruins it completely. I think it's okay for people to discuss religion, politics or whatever, but when THAT is coming of a completely non-related OP then it's probably uncalled for. I mean if (it were allowed that is) people wanted to discuss religion then they ought to have made a thread about it so that people not wanting to be involved could keep out.

There is also a HUGE difference between "discussing" and "dissing" religion and the like. Everyone has different opinions of things and I think it's awful that people hold their opinions over their heads like they are somehow "the best" in their opinion.

I agree with Laurelin, I'm consider myself Christian, but I would never say the things I saw today. Then again I am also very liberal, among other things that were "discussed" today....

Crazy Brit,
I'm very conservative on most things, but I can't stand intolerance of any type. To me it's a huge turn off to hear hate coming from the mouths of those who call themselves Christians. Far too many atrocities have been performed in the name of God, be that name Christ, Allah, Zeus or any of the hundreds of other names that people have called their higher powers.

I agree. I think it's so sad because how do people ever hope to change anyone's minds if they say such awful things? It won't happen that way.

I consider myself Christian...but I am not what you'd probably call a practicing Christian at the moment so it's hard for me to even know where I stand in the kind of talk that was happening earlier. I don't really believe in categorizing people anymore anyway...I still consider myself Christian, but I am also very liberal and I believe that you can fall in love with anyone.

I agree with you here 10000%. I'm a chrisitan, but you just don't do things like that to people. I don't like seeing hateful things being said to others in the name of my religion. It's missing the entire point of Christianity imo.

I like religious discussions and I think they can't be quite enjoyable and educational if people can handle them maturely. I'm not sure if people on this board can handle them though.

I don't think every thread where you disagree with someone that it should turn into a religious persuasion thread especially if the original topic had nothing to do with religion.

Re: This has got to stop !!!!!!!.

I think one problem that makes threads go off on another direction is the so called mouth fighting that start up. Sometimes it puts me in mind of the Jerry Springer show. I have no problem with off topics like religion and politics as long as you have a level head before posting on those topics. The agree to disagree part goes way over boat sometimes.

Re: This has got to stop !!!!!!!.

Wow...

I just read the thread to see what the fuss was about. Its hard to believe that that way of thinking is still being perpetuated.

I think religion can be a very great thing when done right. When my grandmother was dying of cancer, her faith gave her peace.

It really bothers me when I see it on the opposite end of the spectrum, when it's used to make other people feel inferior and guilty because they don't think, feel, or act "right."

Just my two cents. I know I came late.

Re: This has got to stop !!!!!!!.

I also have no problem discussing religion and politics. The key is to be respectful. I am not a Christian, but I certainly respect those that are. I would never think to tell those that believe differently than me that they are wrong or try to impose my beliefs on them and I expect the same in return. I don't have that right and neither do they. Another part of the concept of respect is to know what is appropriate to say and what isn't at the risk of offending others. Discussions of this sort is healthy in many respects if it is handled in a mature way. It serves the purpose of forcing us to evaluate our beliefs and being able to defend them in a rational, mature way. The purpose of them is not to change the other person's beliefs or values. This is because for one, it will not change them or their beliefs, and two, it puts people on the defensive and they won't listen at all and the negativity will just reinforce their beliefs in why the other is "wrong" to begin with. That's just my 2 cents...
