My name is Meghan, and I live in Victoria BC with my boyfriend (common-law) Travis, my 2 year old chihuahua Pedro, my 17 year old Flat Coated Retriever Max, my four cats, four guinea pigs, my horse Quincy, our opossum and our two snakes.

I am a pet food adviser, working in pet food and supply retail for the past four and a half years (working for a privately owned company which is well respected in my community for the best, most knowledgeable staff) I pride myself in being good at what I do, and always being ready to learn something new. I have taken too many courses and seminars in dog, cat and horse nutrition to count, as well as a few seminars and day-courses in basic first aid, and a few seminars in dog behavior.

Up until a few years ago Horses were my priority, and I was spending most of my time buying, training, and re-selling them. Recently I have really become interested in dog behavior, and my biggest goal lately is to learn as much as I can about dog behavior, and different methods of training for problem dogs (or should I say problem owners). I'm always trying to broaden my horizons and learn different methods and ideas to help my clients.

Just because I don't feed a raw diet, or just because I don't use corrective training doesn't mean that I shouldn't be fluent in them, right? That's my theory anyway, especially for the type of work I do.

My biggest pet peeve is people who think that they know everything and aren't willing to hear someone else out. Opinions aren't really worth a whole lot to me, unless the person can back it up with research.

I try never to post something unless I can back it up (unless it is a question that is asking only for opinions) with solid facts and evidence. There is ALWAYS new research being done, and new information coming out. Everyone needs to realize that NO one knows EVERYTHING, and you will ALWAYS be able to learn something new. I am modest enough to admit that.

Meghan

Re: To know one another.....

HI..Good topic!

My name is yvonne and I live on the Mississippi Gulf coast. I was born in Walnut creek, Ca. (where mom is from) And moved to S.Louisiana in 1971. I lived there until I met my ex husband and we moved to Encinitas Ca. I adopted a beautiful 5 year old during that time and found my calling. Animals And my kid. In 97' I moved back home to Louisiana And wanted to do something with my life, So I attended LSU for...I dunno i never figured it out. What I really wanted to do everyone thought I was off kilter. I wanted to get into the dirt business..heavy equipment.Moved to south mississippi, attended
my first auction and purchased my first dumptruck in 99' First trackhoe in 00' then it all took off from there. Now I have 9 trucks, 4 trackhoes, 4 dozers, 2 skid steers. freinds and family dont think im as crazy anymore. I have done rather well with it and so now I have extra Playtime for my pets and plants. I have 11 faithful employees and I find them all to be a blessing. They take care of a majority
of work and I mainly sit here at my desk and make sure they are going to the right jobs and going in right direction. Now If I could get them to service things correctly then well be smooth sailing..But I enjoy taking care of my equipment myself...so i know its done right
I really have no professional experience in animals. I just love them all.. I have owned many dogs and cats, I had a potbelly pig named Wilber that I adored, had a ferrett named Pinky who lived well past her prime of 15 yrs old. And my dream is to retire one day... sell everything...buya RV and travel the USA.. me n my pets...

Re: To know one another.....

Sure why not- I will jump in.
My name is Michelle and I am 47 years old. I was born into a family that was already active in dogs, and at 8 years old my parents got me a miniture poodle to work with. (My whole family is still very active in dogs in one breed or another).. As a junior handler, it really doesnt matter what the dog looks like, but on how you present the dog etc. Then moved to obedience where she was a total natural.
In college I got my first shepherd and started working in more obedience, started Sch. work, and loved search and rescue. Then married and started more of a interest in breeding and showing, training. Did that for 20 years years, ( during this time got my first borzois as I always wanted one), and after I divorced, and my last shepherd died, I stayed with Borzois. Due to the situation of my divorce I found it hard to continue in the work I had done anyway for reasons I wont get into..
Now I am early retired from the post office as a Supervisor, and basically now a house wife. It started with just trying to clear up some health issues, and now has become permanent.
I live on a mountain top, and love it! My 4 Borzois keep me busy enough, and of course- there is always the internet.. lol..

Great Idea!
Hello everyone and my name is Denise. Some of you might know me as "Necie". I'm an 11 year old girl who lives in The Lone Star State. I have 3 Dogs, 3 Guinea Pigs, 1 Fish, and 6 Birds. After some Heart Breaking situations, we are now down to 13 Pets. My three Dogs are Shamu and Willie, my Labs, and Belle, my Tomboy Chihuahua. My three Guinea Pigs are Cinnamon, Caramel, and Chocolate. My 1 Fish is named Cherry, a Red Betta. Last, but not least, my 6 Birds. My Cocktail Tweet Tweet. My 3 Parakeets, Cookie, Cracker, and Nacho. And my 2 Doves, Doveinique Catilina White, and Dove. (Obvious names for Doves huh?) Well, one day I wish to be a Vet Tech/ Fashion Designer. Why Fashion you ask? Well, my sister and I were make stuff up and made up a Clothing Design called, "Chi, By Belle". I was literatlly thinking about making the Design. I will give my sister Credit, since she made up with the name. Well, I am a Mexican girl who can't talk alot of Spanish. I like to watch TV-14 Shows that are Comedy and Horror Movies. I love to Write, Watch TV, and eat ALOT. And I mean ALOT, and yet, i'm STILL Skinny! Not SKinny Skinny, but like, Average/Skinny. Something like that. Hmm...Well, that's all you need to know about me! Oh yeah! And, my Birthday is this Friday! Whoo Hoo!!

Re: To know one another.....

My name is Andrea, I'm 19 years old and I'm currently enjoying my Summer vacation. Come Fall, I will be going back to West Chester University and continuing my studies in Elementary and Special Education. I would like to be a Special Education teacher after graduation. My dream is to one day live on a huge farm with a nice pack of dogs, and maybe a few other critters as well . My family is originally from Cape Town, South Africa and I speak Afrikaans in an English sort of way...I guess you could say it's Englishkaans . I currently have two dogs, but live with three. Tank (who really is more the family dog) was my sixteenth birthday present. My parents always joke that instead of a car I got a Tank. LOL! Henry is my first dog in the sense that he really is mine and I am fully responsible for him. He's my baby . I also live with my mom's dog, Beau, who is a nearly three-year old American Eskimo Dog. We also have one cat, two chinchillas and three guinea pigs. I would have way more if I had it my way. My dad may be adding a Congo African Gray to the family soon, through adoption. I'm currently trying to decide what to do with the rest of my college years, and am pretty firm on transferring. I've never really felt that I have roots here in good 'ole Media, PA, and I LOVE to travel and see new places. In fact, my parents own a travel business and I have been all over the world. Even though I have seen some very exotic places, it would figure that my favorite place in the world is Canada. It's so beautiful, the people are so friendly and the food is amazing. What more could you ask for?! I've worked in child care for the past three years and I'm looking forward to a lifetime of making a difference in the lives of children (and animals! I'd love to volunteer in a shelter during the Summer when I'm not teaching). Anyway, I'm rambling...so I'll just stop here! I'm sure you've got the general idea by now anyway

Re: To know one another.....

What a great thread to learn a bit more about some very good friends.

I'm Michelle but most my good friends call me GreyhoundGirl and I'm 13 years old. As long as I could remember I was begging my parents for a dog. I still have work from Pre-K that says "For Christmas I want a dog" lol. My first language was Russian, which I still speak with my family. I also was learning french from the time I was born. I speak French with everyone else around here. I've been working on learning English since September 2005, it's a very easy language compared to some of the other languages I've learned. According to borzoimom I speak a billion languages. lol.

It was always my dream to have a dog and have her in agility, so ASAP after I got Jenny (my Lurcher) we began agility lessons. We've come really far since then. Now I not only compete in many competitions, and the K9 kup monthly, but I also teach agility classes. I'm not really into showing, because to me it feels like beauty contests. Instead, I busy myself with as many sports and other dggie stuff I can get my hands on. Aside from agility I'm starting to get involved with dog therapy and am hoping to start flyball this spring. I'm also very interested in dog health and nutrition.

I like learning new things about dogs, so I randomly will look things up about dogs and learn everything about that one subject. I don't watch much TV, I do a lot of activities and I'm very busy. I get a lot of homework (all from Monsieur, none of my women teachers are that mean! ) I do competitive swimming, I'm routinely in piano competitions . Just got a huge trophey a few weekends ago when I played the theme music from POTC. I also just took a piano exam a few weeks ago. I jog everyday with Jenny. I do 22 hours of ballet a week during the school year. Oh and did I mention I'm busy? lol

I don't know what I'm going to do when I'm older, but I know I'll be owning Greyhounds. Recentally I've been working really hard to add another dog to the household. It doesn't sound like it will be happening any time soon, but I'm hoping it will. I live most the time in Kuujjuaq, QC, but I also live part of the time in Ontario.

I'll admit this... I waste a lot of time on various dog forums...

Re: To know one another.....

Michy, I didn't start spanish until like 4 years ago, so it hardly counts.

And... uh... I have a FBP confession. FBP means "flying blessed poo"... Here's the story...

Borzoimom lives in the mountain, and one day there was a bear outside. She sees the bear and types "holy flying crap, greyhoundgirl, there's a bear beside me." And my computer translated it to "flying blessed poo, there is a bear beside me" LOL! So now we joke and say "Flying blessed poo!"

Oh, and picture... picture picture picture...

Here's the best pic money can buy of moi. bwahahaha!

Wow I love this thread! I just saw it today!

My name is Carla, I just recently turned 19 on July 4th and I live in the boonies of NC. I am from Anchorage, Alaska orignally and moved to NC about 4 years ago. I am currently attending a community college to work on my g.e.d. since I dropped out of highschool. After that I plan on going to the same community college through their vet tech program and maybe transferring somewhere like Duke. My mom is a vet tech and I would love to follow in her footsteps. I have a huge passion for singing. I love singing country music and hip-hop/R&B. I've grown up around dogs all my life, specifically APBT and currently own one of my own. I love most all breeds of dogs and I am also intrested in cats. I used to be a junior shower of Devon Rex cats. We don't breed or show anymore but still have 5. I am obcessed with Paula Abdul. I love everything about her career, how she achieved it, her music is amazing. I have lost 50 pounds since the beginning of this year. Gosh I could go on and on! Heres my picture!
