| Newcomers Just a suggestion but maybe it would be good to make it compulsary for new members to do a good intro before they can acsess the whole site.
The introduction section isnt frequented by a large majority of members and this way not only would it make *serious* members feel more welcomed but it might keep the fakers at bay.
Once the Mods feel the introduction is a good one, then they become a fully fledged DF member and can acsess the entire site?
Just an idea. |

| Re: Newcomers There has been some discussion with the moderators and administrators regarding this issue. Some forums require the new member to fill out some information then wait for approval before they have the right to post. Currently our administration would like new members to continue to have the right to post almost immediately.
IMHO, I would like people to read through some of the posts before they jump in, immediately get flamed, and go off all PO'd. Moderators usually get dragged into these mudpuddles as they are occuring! If only people would lurk for a while to see if the regular members are on the same page as they are with certain topics... and reading the forum rules should be mandatory! |

| Re: Newcomers *Phew*, I for one am glad you guys deal with that. I'm here and that's that.
Still, I would hate to lose even one good member to the logistics of becoming a "real" member. |

And what would you have lost? By gods, without my presence this very forum would implode upon itself! Be grateful I decided to allow you all the joy of being within my divine love. |

| Re: Newcomers I don't wish they had to fill out an application form or post a compulsory introduction... I do, however, wish they would read five threads before joining, and those threads would be:
The forum rules, I guess. I'll admit I didn't read them till a couple of months after joining.
Any given BYB/mill thread
Any given my-dog-ate-soap-and-is-turning-purple-please-help thread
Any given Cesar Milan thread
Any given "hybrid" thread |

| HAHA! ,you joker.
This forum seems very popular,i would bet people would have the patience to wait untill they could post fully, meaning we get to learn more about them before they can. |

| Re: Newcomers Ha Ha. I thought this was funny.
I did not do a proper intro on the new members thread. Shoot, I have not even done the profile thing yet.
On the other hand, I probably lurked for a month before I joined, to sort of get a feel for things. I became "protective" over some of the members before I ever joined, and found a few I would just as soon thump.
Oh well, I guess they are everywhere... |

I know at least one was been banned by the time I joined... So I guess it wasn't just me feeling that way.
Oh, and I enjoy your posts. |

I think you wanted to kill me when i 1st joined coz it took about 3 million attempts before i got photobucket pics to link!
So what do you think of the idea in general though, basically i think it could decrease the troll population just a little?? |

| Re: Newcomers I appreciate the effort, but I don't think it would cut the troll traffic and would put an additional strain on limited moderator resources.
Any troll who is not completely insane could write a convincing introduction and some of the serious dog-owners on this forum sounded like trolls when they first posted.
I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt. If you can behave in a civil manner, I don't care how young you might be, what your level of experience is or what really brought you here.
If you ride into Dodge and start calling folks out, you'll be run out of town before dusk. |
