Rep points and comments...

So I just noticed on the user cp there are the rep points and comments......but you cant see who left the comment ..why is that?...you shouldn't be able to insult someone anonymously

also I understand the red little tab and the green tab...but what about the purple/blue tab?..what dose that represent?

can anyone help me out....

Re: Rep points and comments...

I just close the rep comments so I don't have to see all of the little red boxes. The blue and purple boxes have something to do with the amount of posts the person has that made the comment (I believe).

Re: Rep points and comments...

LOL....I have been on DF for a few months now and just noticed it...I will probably do the same thing

if someone is not brave enough to voice their opinion to me directly ...its probably not worth wasting my time reading it

Re: Rep points and comments...

Hey! I just noticed today is my one year mark on the forum! It's a straight up miracle my rep points still appear in the positive. The thing I find funny about it is someone taking the time to post an anonymous comment in the first place. Oh well...

Re: Rep points and comments...

Happy one year anniversary!!

...yeah I find it funny too.....I kinda see the point of giving positive rep points....because you really liked someones post and you want to give them an internet "high five"....but the negative stuff ...why dwell on it...just move on

Re: Rep points and comments...

this may sound stupid, but where do you find your rep points? i have a thing on my user cp that says my latest rep point came from a certain thread, but no more, just the latest one... i am interested in seeing where other ones may have come from. i don't really remember saying a lot of things that i would get rep points for haha

Re: Rep points and comments...

I don't really get how they work either. I don't know what the grey ones are. I have a few grey ones with no comments at all.

I don't think there's a way to view your total number of reputation points. Only the last four.

Re: Rep points and comments...

There really doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to me. It only shows the five most recent comments, and keeps a running tally of your "points" at the top. Maybe I'll go join the Cesar thread again and see how long it takes to get a red square.

Zim: I think it's so you can't single-handedly destroy my ranking.

I think you only get to see the 5 most recent of something. I have left a few comments to people. Always positive though. No need to bash someone you could just as easily ignore. Harisse you are a trouble maker lol

Re: Rep points and comments...

Dude...we could totally make some kind of game out of giving out positive reps to as many people as much as possible....

just took a look at my rep points...

It appears that Im violently hated. How stupidly petty can people get?

but whatever...

:flashing bilboard of I don't care: Oh the indifference!!!!

Re: Rep points and comments...

I forgot we had a rep system here! =O

I got a negative comment for this post:
Quote:
*raises hand* SLK introduced me to well behaved dogs, which I had never seen before (I actually quite disliked dogs before SLK came around and showed me the goodness of dogs), and now I really want one, one day, when I have the time, money, and space. XD
It was in the "Would you own a pit" thread long ago, and someone had mentioned you don't need to own a certain breed for your general opinion of dogs to change, and I was agreeing, saying that because SLK had introduced me to good dogs, I someday want a good dog, not necessarily a pit (though I probably wouldn't mind a pittie, either XD).

This was the negative comment:
"Another breed zealot with no real first hanf knowledge or experience."

=< Person gave me a negative comment simply because they misunderstood, and since it was anon, I can't explain it to them. X3

I think I should hide the comments, too, or I might get annoyed in the future. XD

Re: Rep points and comments...

I think the rep points are useless. There's one person that has left a bunch of negs on my rep thing, plus the box is the same color for each of their posts. Someone obviously has a lot of time on their hands.

I do think it's rather stupid though. If someone has something negative to say. those rep things just give them the cowards way out. Instead, they should PM the person and actually talk it out like an adult. So childish. :eyeroll:

I do leave plenty of reps for others, but always positive. And I sign my initials after it. I left one the other day for UrbanBeagles on how gorgeous one of her beagle pics was. Example, I signed it, "Gorgeous dog in that photo! -- MRC" or something like that.

I've had quite a few positive ones, and some are signed like I do mine, so they won't be anonymous.

Anyhoo, I hide mine too. The negs are a waste of time for whoever actually writes them. I figure if it's important, they'll PM me.

I have a total of 5 points. I think you start with 9. People left me negative comments saying I was rude. How ridiculous. I can't possibly be rude - I'm Canadian.

Re: Rep points and comments...

I'll tell you what I know. But, first, a disclaimer: I think the rep system is useless and destructive and should be disabled. According to the point system, I am wildly popular. Yet, when I had three large dogs with diarrhea, not a single one of you came over to my house with a mop.

Everyone starts out with ten points. (For some, it's all downhill from there.)

Green dots are positive points and comments are optional. Red dots are negative points and comments are required (though it's unlikely they will be useful or constructive,) Blue-grey dots are comments from new members whose opinions don't yet count, so they don't add or subtract points.

You can't do rapid-fire positive or negative points for a single member. That would open the door to all kinds of abuse (in a system which is just naturally abusive to begin with.)

You don't know, and moderators don't know, who left the reputation points for you. So, it can be like finding a burning bag of crap on your front porch or a box of fine chocolates. Either way, I'd prefer to know who the donor is.

My consistently humble opinion regarding the interpretation of reputation points is this: If you never, ever get a negative comment, you probably aren't participating much. But if you get a LOT of negative comments, from a variety of sources on a variety of topics, you may want to examine your posting style to see why you're pissing so many people off.

This is, after all, a social, recreational forum and if you never, ever care what people think, they're not going to think much of you at all.

But you shouldn't lose any sleep over the occasional nasty comment. (Even I've had a few. Can you believe it?)
