It remembers what you have viewed. So when you go to "New Posts" and you see a bold thread that is a new thread to you or there is a new post in that thread that you haven't seen. When you click the down arrow it takes you right to the post you haven't seen. So when I go to another machine and sign on the site (or even the same machine) and see a bold thread it means there is new info for me to read.
I have a shortcut to http://www.dogforums.com/search.php?...chuser=franman
What that does is pull up all the threads I've posted in. The bold ones have new posts I haven't seen. But on this site it doesn't mark I've viewed the new posts/threads. Also when I hit the down arrow to go to the new posts it normally takes me to the first post.
Here is what vB says Quote:
Thread/Forum Read Marking Type
This option controls how threads and forums are marked as read.
1. Inactivity/Cookie Based - once a user has been inactive for a certain amount of time (the value of the session timeout option) all threads and forums are considered read. Individual threads are marked as read within a session via cookies.
This option is how all versions of vBulletin before 3.5 functioned.
2. Database (no automatic forum marking) - this option uses the database to store thread and forum read times. This allows accurate read markers to be kept indefinitely. However, in order for a forum to be marked read when all threads are read, the user must view the list of threads for that forum.
This option is more space and processor intensive than inactivity-based marking.
3. Database (automatic forum marking) - this option is the same as a previous option, but forums are automatically marked as read when the last new thread is read.
This is the most usable option for end users, but most processor intensive.

| FranMan - I've been looking for a way to change that setting for sometime now.
Thank you for pointing this out and it should be working now.
And I just enabled the reputation system so I can give you good rep for pointing that out. |

| Cool! I was wondering why everything was "new".
There are a TON of options with vB. It takes a while to find them all. I also noticed a problem uploading a signature image. It seems like the signature image directory doesn't have public rights. |

| Hmmm, with this change is there any way to get the "today's posts" out of the "quick links" pull down and into the toolbar next to "new posts"? |

Now an extra click is too much work. Sorry, but I do this all the time too, and find myself getting aggravated at the extra clicks. Just musing. Sorry again. |

If I need to quickly refresh my memory, it's much easier to find an older post quickly, rather than click on the members name, click on all their posts, search through all the posts for the one I'm looking for...yada yada yada. |

If I click on "new posts" again, I won't find it unless someone else left a new post. But in "today's posts", it's right where I remembered it to be. |
