Re: chat room

So what you'd like is for a moderator to moderate a chat room 24/7.

Or maybe 3 moderators, in shifts, to each watch it for 56 hours/week.

Hey, sign me up!

Omg ron! Go for it!!
But I think only MODERATORS should be the ones..moderating it.

Yeah, like doxies13isenough said, a report button would be cool. But I don't know if you can do it on certain chat things..I haven't seen one before.

Re: chat room

I'm a member of another forum that is set up like DF. They are just as large, if not larger. They have a chat room and it does not have a mod 24/7. Mod's go in to chat sometimes but are not required to stay in there. Mods are required to read every single post in their assigned subforums though.

: )

Re: chat room

I joined a horse forum not to long ago for info and to talk about Bree. (it's so dead)

But back OT they have a live chat, but when I went to get there, I got a sorry you haven't been around long enough/made enough posts to get in here.

I thought about that, and decided that it was probably a wise idea.

You have to have made x# of posts to be able to get in.(I would assume signifying that you're stable enough not to get banned)

HAHAHA!! No, that's not what I meant. In other forums that have done it, they've just kept record of chat sessions for a few days, and if nobody reported anything, they got deleted. Mainly to have as "proof" of one or more people misbehaving. It was never read unless there was a problem. But if there was one, the person couldn't try to weasel their way out of it, the proof was there for the mods to see.

I don't expect there to be a mod in the room at all times, of course not! Just one, even someone who's already a mod to go back and check the sessions if someone reports a problem in the room.

Re: chat room

the best chat I am in has a report button. You click it a mod is sent an alert to come in. or the people in the chat can record.
The worst chat I have been in ( but we would not have it here) the mod was the rudest to people of all.
I like the idea of " senior member." Usually trolls are discovered before they would make senior member. Maybe it could be a " perk" of being a senior member?
Chat rooms can be set up so that as stated it stays on record for what-ever days. without a report- its deleted... Another way we could have a chat room without a mod.
I can set up a chat room using a outside place- BUT - since its not linked to the site, people do not have to behave in forum rules..

Re: chat room

You all have listed the reasons why you would like a chat room. Since you, or I, can't make it happen, how 'bout some reasons why the forum owners might like a chat room?

Threads are already running as a chat room. One is close to 9000 posts. .. Chat rooms are great for people to get to know each other more. Not to mention- a added feature to this site over other sites.. I am on several sites . I come here the most because its so active, and moderators treat people fairly. However- another site I go too because it has a chat room.. So- lets put the two together..

Re: chat room

There is one set up. Island mutts made a chat room on this thread http://www.dogforums.com/7-off-topic...chat-room.html (Chat room!) and here is the site:
http://java.freenode.net/ The channel is called "dogforums" and then you can put whatever name you want for your name.

Re: chat room

Speaking of helping deliver pups in chat...did Galina have her pups yet Borzoimom?

And back to chat rooms. I have seen some forums delete them because of the way some people got picked on. Seems cliques get together in chat rooms with their own lingo and backstab people and mods can't do anything because the chats look innocent the way they use their own language. I'm not sure at all about the whole thing, I've watched too many people get hurt by these chat rooms.
I think I'll leave the decision to our mods on this one.
