Greeting new members

I find it sad that almost no one post in this section to greet new members. I think that it would make the forum seem much friendlier if everyone could drop in once in a while. On most other forums you get tons of warm welcomes and the people are not even half as friendly as here

Well I pop into new members but most of the time I use " new topics". This forum is so active, and so busy, I spend most of my time reading the threads in other areas.

Same here, I click the "new posts" button exclusively and dont really go into the main page of each subforum at all.
ITs hard to stay on top of things around here as it moves so quickly, its not that many of us dont welcome new people, its just hard to notice new ones are around.

Also, the New Member subforum doesn't show up until you log in, so I never really think about it when I'm reading but not logged in, which is alot.

I haven't been welcoming new members because this forum is so active,I am usually caught up reading other threads and posts.Gonna try to welcome new members from now on (afterall I do in other forums).

I was mostly thinking out loud. By the way I think it has gotten better because a few months ago, so new members would ge 0 replies.

I don't know where's the new thread button lol so I go in every subforum to take a look at the messages lol I am so oldfashioned

Oh thats okay.
I like to welcome new members anyway,cause when I join a new forum,I like to feel welcomed.So the least I can do is welcome other new members.

As a newbie on this forum, I have to say it is a warm and welcoming place compared to most forums I've been on (which have mostly been political). I put a picture of my dog in my first thread in the New Member section and I think that's why I got so many replies. I mean, he's so darn cute

I would guess that if people have some discussion board experience, they know not to expect a huge welcome party when they sign up and not to take it personally if they only get one or two replies to their introduction thread. But those with less experience may not understand how it all works.

I'll try to make an effort to welcome other newbies in there, but I think it means more coming from long-term members with higher post counts.

P.S. I used to be an admin on a discussion board - so I tend to think about stuff whenever I join a new board. But lemme tell ya, this place seems to run really well considering it's size - from what I've seen so far the mods/admins here do a great job.

I try. When I'm less busy, I go through and try to write a personal message on all of the new threads...but it's hard. There are so many new members and the vast majority never come back...so when I don't have much time, that's the first thing that goes.
