| Thanks, Mods!! Well, in the "closing like wildfire" thread, I went to click my "quick reply" button and it had been closed, LOL!
But what I was going to say was thanks to all of you! You really do keep things smooth, and it's people like you who do not get the credit you deserve.
Keep up the good work!! |

| Re: Thanks, Mods!! Yes,I totally agree- You really do a great job at keeping things under control!! I like to see positive things in this what seems like a very negative world, and I like this to be a place to go to not see all the crap going on-- so Thank You! Keep up the great work! |

| Re: Thanks, Mods!! Ditto. I couldn't believe the other thread really. I KNOW what a forum is like with lazy mods and believe me this is BY FAR the best moderated forum I have ever been a part of.
I talk about this forum ALL the time lol. I am glad to be back on here more often since I have been gone for a while...
You guys rock! |

| Re: Thanks, Mods!! As I mentioned, both in my post and in a pm to the mods, I too appreciate the mods. They do a great job, keep the forum going and even add great thoughts to the discussions. However, I do think that sometimes they go overboard in shutting down discussions that are still civil and don't need to be closed.
When that happens and it bothers someone, I think it should be brought up and discussed openly - civilly and rationally of course. Even if everyone agrees (or disagrees) with the threads being closed, I still think it is an important discussion to have occasionally....how we talk to each other, how we relate as individuals and as a community and family as well (because I talk to you guys enough it is like a family!)...these discussions make this forum stronger, more vibrant, diverse and thought provoking.
At the point we are told that we can't discuss these things, that they aren't open to discussion because actions of mods are unquestionable, that weakens not only the discussion, but also the community and the family....people will go away...and IMHO, every good, strong voice we lose, is a blow to this forum.
The best part about this forum, and the reason I stick around, is that occasionally, we get a lively discussion that really makes people think....and they usually develop from the most mundane thoughts or questions. If every time one person gets slightly out of hand or people start heavily disagreeing, the thread gets closed, we'll turn into a forum of "yes, yes" people and people will be afraid to dissent. Don't we get enough of that from our political system and media coverage?

| Re: Thanks, Mods!! It's always best, if you have aquestion about WHY we do something to take it to PM. We watch people on here all the time and know the members and what is likely to set them off. These threads may not have blown up when we shut them down, but I assure you they were about to. The warning signs were there for us, we just kept the ugliness off the board.
Please, if you have questions when a thread is shut down, ask us in private.
Now I'm moving this to feedback where it belongs. |

| Re: Thanks, Mods!! Thank you for all of your comments. Mods have regular jobs and family lives so often we are checking in for a few minutes when we are able. We may not have been following a thread all day long, as some of the members do. So sometimes we are making decisions based on what we know about members and past experiences with the same subjects.
Any time a member has a question that would better be addressed privately I am happy to respond to a PM.
And it would be extremely helpful if everyone would occasionally read the rules at the top of the page, especially if you're new or haven't read them in a while. We do change them from time to time to reflect issues on the forum and new technology being used. There are some "absolutes" on this forum and it's a good thing to know what they are.
We do the best we can. And when we know better we do better. |

| Re: Thanks, Mods!! The older I get, the more I realize you can't please everyone and you'll kill yourself trying.
For every member that thinks the moderators are too restrictive and quick to close threads, we have an equal number that thinks there should be more civility on the forum. Civility will never be universally voluntary.
For what it's worth, if I think a thread is that bad, I delete it - not close it. When moderator actions and decisions need to be put up to a vote, nothing will ever get done.
Nobody ever claimed this forum was a democracy.

| Re: Thanks, Mods!! Go RonE. LOL You all do a good job and I do appreciate you. Even though I have an occasional nosy moment since I tend to miss most of the hot threads. LOL I really don't care to see name calling and nasty stuff. Especially if the name calling is directed at me. LOL delete, delete, delete! LOL So Thanks every one of you! |
