| Why so slow?? Seriously, this site is by far the slowest site I frequent, and I visit some other large sites.
There have been some threads that I can not even load.
I usually run 2 browsers at the same time ( more when IM not here) and on the other site I am on while here I can load easily 4 pages before this one loads.
I know there have been alot of threads regarding the lack of speed on this site, but nothing seems to change?!?!?
Just wondering if there is a reason for the slow down here? |

| Re: Why so slow?? If the other sites and forums you are referencing have a comparable amount of pictures and number of threads or posts/page, then I really don't know.
What kind of connection are you running? I would imagine it have more to do with your machine and connection since any thread I hit opens instantly. Then again, I have a highspeed connection and I built this computer three weeks ago using the best parts I could reasonably afford, so comparing to it is most likely unfair.
Also, a lot of people seem to have big pictures in their signatures here **looks a bit guilty** and that probably slows things down a bit. The pictures forum in particular would probably cause your machine to come to a grinding halt if you are already having problems with normal threads. |

| Re: Why so slow?? Yeah, the other forums and sites have alot of pictures, less advertising though... perhaps thats the culprit.
I am running on dial up * blushes due to embarasment* as its my only option here for internet.
My computer is fairly new and relatively speedy everywhere else. Perhaps it is due to the signatures!?!?
There is one thread I have tried to get into for a good 2 days now, and I just cant. "What do you feed your cat" is the one.
It took me until today to congratulate Snowshoe ( or Northern lights now) on Orchids show brags... |

There are other good ones, but yours is nearly perfect. |

Like I said, this is one of the 'larger' sites I visit, however, not the largest. A few other forums I hit daily have the same if not more activity.
I dont see how my connection or computer distinguishes this site from the others and slows down here only
While yes, it will understandably take me longer to open any page on the net due to dial up, it should be the same for all, and generally it is, with dogforums.com being the exception. Quote: |

| yeah some of them are extremely excessive, its annoying to say the least. |

| Re: Why so slow?? Something that might help: if you go in the User CP section, and hit options, you can set it so that people's signatures and/or avatars won't appear for you. Might speed things up for you. |

| Re: Why so slow?? Our forum's server is located in Texas. Depending on your geographic location to Texas, the site could be slower than other sites you frequent. For instance if you live in Pennsylvania and the other forum you visit is hosted in New York, you are definitely going to notice a difference on 56k. Also if the server was located in California you would see even more slowness. Those on broadband would probably not notice the difference. Just a little technical tidbit for you My guess is that you are either located on the East or West coast which would be the culprit in either case. I hope this helps |

| Re: Why so slow?? Hi,
I joined Dog Forums yesterday and I am having great trouble viewing anything on the site because each page takes several minutes to come up! I was going to make "Why is this site so slow?" a new topic in the Suggestions/Feedback section but then noticed that it is a major topic of conversation! I've followed the instructions and gone to my UCP and turned OFF the avatars and signatures, so hopefully that will make a difference, but I really would have thought the site should come up with no problem even with all these kinds of features - I am a member of about a dozen other pet forums and they all have avatars, signatures and advertisments, yet they all come up within seconds?
Why would Dog Forums be any different? Seriously, I think that whoever is responsible for manning this site (the webmaster) should make a big effort to make the site work properly - people won't want to be members if they can't view anything! I think that if I continue having a lot of trouble viewing pages on Dog Forums that I will want to have my account deleted!
Lots of sympathy to those of you who are also having trouble with the site! Quote:

So has unticking the avatars, signatures and images boxes worked? The answer is that the pages certainly are coming up quicker than before but viewing anything other than posts in one thread is still a headache. In my opinion, the presence of avatars, signatures and images add greatly to the interest of a forum - something should be done about the slowness of Dog Forums as soon as possible! Just in case this helps - I've noticed that when each page comes up there's a little exclamatian mark icon at the bottom with some text beside it saying "Done but with error on page" or simply "Error on page". Although I am on a dial-up connection I'm sure it's not my computer that's at fault, because I've had trouble with this error icon on other sites on some days, but on others there has been no such icon and the site's worked fine. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS SITE! Quote:
