dog adoption

Almost two weeks ago I came across a beautiful dog in a park with no identifiers. She was a sweetheart, beautiful, well kept, nice teeth, knew how to sit... just seemed obvious she belonged to somebody. So I put her in my car, drove her around the neighborhood, knocked on doors... nobody knew her. So I took her to a local animal shelter to see if she had a chip - nothing. A week went by and no owner claimed her. So even though I already had a dog I adopted her because she's too sweet to let go. Question is - does this happen? Do people just lose their dog and don't look for them? Or should I have tried harder to find her owner? Well not that I have time or the resources to do that... and I live in a different (than where I found her) city... I'm just walking and driving around with this amazing dog who obviously has a history with a previous owner and it feels wrong. Any feedback would be helpful

Congrulations! you did everything you could do to locate the owner, I think the dog is lucky to have found someone who is so caring and able to take her in! Enjoy your new companion

I personnal could never do that to my dog. I love her so much, and she has ran away numerous times and I have spent hours on end (in the middle or the night) to find her!

I agree... You did all you could, there's only so much one person can do when somebody "abondons" their dog. I would've done the same thing, but my fiance wouldn't have let me adopt her because of our basket case which we call our dog...LOL...

Re: dog adoption

If the owner has not tried to find them at the shelter then they are probably not looking.

Even nice dogs get abandoned

The good news is you got a sweetie pie and this pup got an angel.
