Butt Rubbing

Not sure if this is a health issue or not but... my 10 week old puppy seems to spend a lot of time sitting and dragging her butt along the floor. What is going on? And how can I stop it?

Re: Butt Rubbing

Obviously there is some irritation whether it is the anal gland or perhaps intestinal parasites, call the vet and explain the symptoms.

it is worms, go to the vet and deworm your dog.

Re: Butt Rubbing

I agree, my first bet would be it's due to worms. Older dogs it is sometimes because they need their anal glands expressed, but I can't see that being an issue with a 10 week old pup.

Re: Butt Rubbing

Usually dewormers are given over the course of a few days---be sure the meds you got cover all those nasty little parasites....

Re: Butt Rubbing

Could also be that your puppy's anal sacs need to be expressed. I've been told there is a lot of discomfort and butt scootin' when the anal sacs are too full and need to be expressed. =) Stinky and messy. <3

Sounds like the anal glands need to be expressed. Round worms can make this as well. Its common for puppies to get anal problems needing experssion ( your vet can do this) because of new eating habits. At 10 weeks old its time for a worming anyway- and the vet can check the anal gland as well. changing from milk products to puppy food can make the glands needing to be expressed.

Re: Butt Rubbing

If not worms or anal gland problems it could be the onset of PF. Yes, PF is getting more prevanlant in dogs. It is NOT genic as often some say so, but just a thing happening to often close tailed dogs n pups, etc. For more info go to: http://www.righthealth.com/search?t=...c&v=Health&m=1
Hope this helps an is NOT the source of the pets problem.
