Exclamation Help Puppy Problems

I lost my German Shepherd three weeks ago.... I went and bought a new Shepherd puppy (which my kids are VERY attached to) and she is 10 weeks old. She had coccidia and we have eliminated that problem. She has lost weight and will not eat. We brought her to the VET and they can't find anything wrong. I have tried dry food, canned food, dog treats, boiled chichen, boiled hamburger meat and baby food..... she will usually eat a few bites of anything I make but won't try it again. We went and bough "tradewinds" tonight and treated her for a tapeworm just in case.

ANY SUGGESTIONS OR HELPFUL HINTS!

I had problems with my dog when she was a puppy. We went through 17 (no lie) kinds of dog food before she decided she would eat Royal Canin with regularity. We also were giving her Nutri-stat, which they can live on if they aren't eating. It is in a tube and is highly concentrated and tasty. They only have to eat a spoonful or two to get the nutrients to sustain them until they get their appetite back. If your puppy isn't eating well, (s)he could (probably) have low blood sugar which can cause nausea, leading to food avoidance, leading to low blood sugar...as you can see it can be a vicious cycle. Try putting a bit of sugar or Karo in the drinking water and watch for an increase in appetite thereafter. My dog never had much of an appetite until this year and she is three years old and has now begun to fill out. Rice is also a good way to elevate blood sugar when they aren't eating well. Still investigate and rule out parasites and infectious causes as well. Good luck!
PS. After having an intestinal illness, it takes a while for the bowel to normalize and she may still feel a bit sick.

Sometimes it takes more than one treatment to get rid of a parasite like coccidia. When you took her to the vet the second time, did they do any bloodwork or fecal or urine tests?

New Puppy

We have tried rice with boiled chicken. She will eat that but not doing very well eating food. We have tried several different types of dog food. She is eating a little bit but not much. I am going to try the sugar in her water and see what happens. She drinks alot of water. Hopefully she will start eating soon. tmgriset
