Ihave a pup on seizures and there is an excellent website for seizure pups...
phenobarb is a nasty medication with some major side effects over the long term so it is best to avoid medications unless the seizures become more frequent.... I agree with Briteday above that you should have something on hand for a situation where the seizure may not quit as fast as you think
most vets will recommend either rectal valium in a syringe that you just push up their butts and put the meds into their rectum... it will stop a seizure quickly.... I do intranasal valium with my Cuinn... I find that the nose is easier to get to than the rectum during a seizure.... I would talk to your vet about an emergency kit.... in mine we have two syringes of valium and some valium tablets (because Cuinn clusters... clusters means having more than one seizure in a 24 hour period, this is fairly dangerous so we don't allow that to happen) We did not start cuinn on anti-convulsants until he was having numerous seizures in a week.
The thing is that once a dog starts having seizures the brain wiring does change and it means that generally more seizures will come... in this case your pup is having infrequent seizures.... so the next time he has a seizure within 12 hours have bloodwork done... that will tell you if there is anythign going on there....if not without doing a catscan or mri you may never know what is going on with the dog and you might need to just keep an eye on the seizures and go from there.
I would NOT suggest pheno for a dog that is having infrequent seizures.... nor would I suggest pheno as an emergency kit type medicine, the valium is a much better choice as it will work very quickly and doesn't have to build to a blood level.....

this is an excellent canine epilepsy site with alot of info on drugs and other methods to control seizures.... and remember to keep your pup away from water unless he has a lifejacket on....
