Dog diagnosed with Diabetes

Hello I have a 6 year old female Miniature Schnauzer that was just diagnosed with diabetes. We have been trying to get her regulated with insulin for over 3 weeks and her blood glucose is still over 400+. We started with Humulin N at 7 units twice a day and now have switched to Vetsulin at 6 units twice a day. This is my question has anyone had a problem getting the blood glucose down just after 3 weeks? I feel like nothing is working

Don't dispair--3 weeks is not a long time to get a dog regulated. My dog lived with diabetes for 5 yrs. Few vet's have indepth training with diabetes. GO to this site, you will find a lot of support and comfort and expert knowledge. If it were not for the people on that board, my mim Schnauzer would have died at 2 + 1/2 yrs. There are many years of experience in dealing with insulins, dosages, diets, and getting a balance between the three. Good luck. Virginia
