| 2 week old puppies Hello all, I am having an issue with one of my 2 week old Olde English Bulldogge pups. I have been finding her trying to nurse on her litter mates and well, lets just say the boys are giving her a drink! I have never encountered this before, but then again the last litter I raised had 1 boy who was bottle fed. She seems fine, gaining weight and suckling the teat with great energy when mum comes in the whelping box. Should I be concerned? They are watched day and night and I try to keep her away from the other pups when she tries to do this, but sometimes I am a little too late. Has anyone had experience with this before?
Thanks in advance for any replies. |

| Re: 2 week old puppies This happens in most litters. Just put her on a real nipple when you find this happening. |

| Re: 2 week old puppies Thank you for the reply RedyreRottweilers, I do put her right to the nipple and usually the rear ones which usually have the most milk but she still attempts to nurse off her littermates. When mum comes to nurse & they all swarm her, I keep a close eye to make sure she is on a nipple, sometimes she tends to suckle right beside one that another pup is already on! |

| Re: 2 week old puppies No, Maggie free whelped her litter. I chose to try a free whelp in leu of a schedualed c-section because my vet lives 5 mintues from me and the office is down the street from my house. He was pretty much on the phone with me all night to make sure all was fine. I'm pretty lucky to have such a wonderful Doctor caring for my girl. She had 11 pups, 2 didn't make it. 3 girls and 6 boys surviving. She also only had 1 tie, it was her 1st litter and she whelped on day 58.
All her pups have been gaining weight constantly, none have dropped any...not even the 1st 24 hours! Aside from my concern for the 1 girl, everything is going wonderfully. The pups eyes opened around day 6-8, and I have 2 that are wanting to chew on fingers when I weigh them. |
