Angry incontinence/raw-looking vulva

We have a 3yr old lab, from a humane society. She has had surgery for incontinence, and is doing very well. She is on 2 meds, Cystolamine and a hormone, DES. She has been on antibiotics 3 times since we have had her. ( 2 1/2 months). She still will leak urine occasionally, a small drop or 2. We wash her bottom off 3 x day and put on Aquaphor for the excoration. But her vulva gets raw looking and smelly in spite of all this, and it looks like warts. The Vet says it is a thicke ning of her tissue, but I don't want her to be on systemic antibiotics her whole life. I am thinking maybe trying a woman's cream for yeast infections, but there are so many different things going on with her I hate to confuse the mix. Any body have any experience with this? We love her and she is worth doing anything, and a little drop of urine is a small price to pay for a great dog, put she gets uncomfortable, licking , etc.

I would get a second opinion--my first dog, Snowie had that but it was because of a bladder tumor. I know this is not the instance in your case but the incontinence made her soooo raw and sore it was heartbreaking (she was 13).

Thanks all, I am pretty confident in our vet, and our last visit she said that if things don't clear up soon she will send us up to Portland (we live in Oregon)
In addition to her meds I am now trying a woman's antifungal/antiseptic vaginal jelly. Oh the things we do!

Re: incontinence/raw-looking vulva

Sounds to me like she has a vaginal infection. Take her to another vet.

Re: incontinence/raw-looking vulva

one thing that works well is this:
buy baby wipes and each time that she goes to the bathroom, bring her in and wipe her down with it. it cleans the area and keeps the yeast at a managable level.. Also when any dog or cat is on antibiotics, give them a table spoon of yogurt with the meds. you can mix it in their food. it reestablishs and replaces the yeast in their system that is killed off by the antibiotic.

Bearla has serious problems with this issue due to a deformed vulva. she is on antibiotics for 21 days ever 3 to 4 months and using malacetic wipes and topagen spray. Since i have been using the yogurt and the baby wipes i have not had to put her on antibiotics.
