Heart murmur

My dog has had this for a while, but just lately it has been causing problems, coughing, loss of appetite and lethargic.
The vet has put her on water tablets and heart tablet…how long should it be before I see an improvement?

I really hate seeing her like this, she is 11 now so I know she is getting old and these things are expected, but its still not nice.

It all depends on your dog's condition. Some dogs improve within a couple of days while others may take longer. The vet who prescribed the medications should be able to give you a more definitive answer. I also would recommend visiting a cardiologist for an echocardiogram (an ultrasound of the heart) if you haven't done that already. It may be a bit on the expensive side but should provide you with what specifically is causing your dog's problems.

I know how you feel--my dog is already 7 years old and I can't believe it. It seems like just yesterday we brought her home from the shelter. If only they could stay with us forever . . .
