Bruised Breast Bone

I have a bloodhound and she is almost a year old next month. We were playing and she rolled over and i was scratching her belly and notices her breast bone looked like it was bruised. It is a really dark color on the thick part of of breast. I have noticed this before, but didnt think to much about it. It doesnt seem to bother her when you press on it, but it doesnt look right. All the other skin is white after you pull back her furr, but not on the breast area. But i seen it again today. It looks kind of large. Any ideas what this might be?? I am a little nervous.
Thanks,

Re: Bruised Breast Bone

Is the skin bruised or a dark color? My dog's skin was all pink when I first got her and as months passed she has more dark blotches that is normal

Re: Bruised Breast Bone

It is a dark color. My husband said it was dirt, but it doesnt rub off! It is hard to explain, it is a dark like it almost looks like a brown blood color. Hopefully that makes sense.

Re: Bruised Breast Bone

how long has she had it? Was she injured?
either way hon take her in to a vet. Some carcinomas come up looking like that on dogs so why take a chance. it will probably turn out to be a bruise.
did she run into something like a thorn bush that could have left a spur under her skin?

What is Carcinomas? Cancer? I had a friend tell me it might be a birth mark. It is not puffey or anything..she hadnt injuried herself either. I noticed it awhile back but didnt really thing much about it until i just seen it again..dont get her to flip over that often. Thanks!

Re: Bruised Breast Bone

hi roxy
it is a form of skin cancer in dogs. if it is not raised or swollen the chances are it is a birth mark but do her a favor and take her in to be checked just the same.

Yes, I am going to make the call to her vet tomorrow. Thanks again!

Well, i took Roxy to the vet today and all he said was that it was like how humans get callius. She has a concrete floor in her pin and she rubs that spot there and also getting in and out of her dog house. It rubs it and instead of getting a callius they get this pigment in there skin that makes that spot turn a dark color.
I was so relieved and also felt a little silly, but this is like my baby and i just had to know because looking at everything on the internet i was getting really concerned.
Thanks to everyone for your comments.

Staci
