Hurt Dog??

First all I'm Jessica, I have a 3 year old daughter, and a long-haired Chihuahua (male) named Dakota.

A little background 3 weeks ago Sunday, some really good friends of ours (my husband and I) were in to town to visit well the stayed with some other really good friends of our.. we all went out one night and that night when they got home their little toy poodle (Sophie) was gone.. we search EVERYWHERE and couldn't find her, we posted on a local forum about and that Tuesday I thought I would call the Animal Shelter (hoping that she was already there) they didn't have her and hadn't heard or seen anything so anyway last Friday she showed up at some how they kept her over the weekend and took to the shelter Monday Morning then I got the call to come get her.. we thought we were never going to see her again so we were all VERY happy to have her return home. Anyway the owners live out of town they both work and haven't been able to come down and get her (they have called everyday to check on her). SO anyways I have given her two baths (one immediately after I got her she was a NASTY mess) and another one yesterday and NEVER noticed any scratches or anything (and I looked her over) so anyway today I was looking at her and saw a big bruise, and it kinda looks like a gash it looks terrible... none of us have the money right now to take her to the vet so I was wondering what I could do to help it heal?? it seems to be itching and it looks like its healing but I'm afraid of infection any suggestions?

Everyone is going to tell you to take the dog to the vet. I'd agree with that but, for any type of wound or cut, our vet told us that it was ok to put neosporin on the wound. My wife cut one of our dogs when shaving him and I put neosporin on the cut for a week or so and that took care of it.

I have a friend that deals with dogs and has been around them her whole life.. so I asked her what to do (she has dealt with a similar problem before) and she said just to put some alcohol on it and some neosporin so I did that and it look SOO much better I'm going to do it again later!!

thank you for your response!!

Re: Hurt Dog??

if you do not have the money take her to the pound vet. and ask for help in some state they will help you at low cost or to make small payments but please take her somewhere for help, give her up if you have to so she can get the help she needs if you love her and care about her at all she needs help NOW! because yes it will get infected and she will die a horrible death.

Re: Hurt Dog??

cant your friend that owns the dog wire you some money or are you taking possession of the little angel yourself? if you are taking it on you can contact several pet health aide companies on the web for money to help in any type of vet bill situation.
google free pet health aide there all types of aide companies out there that can help and most vets have alist of them as well. Put alchol on it and get her to a vet. its okay to put neosporin on SMALL cuts but not large or deep ones. she may have a blood infection that you arent even aware of that may have gotten into her blood stream while she was out on her own. you stated she had been in bad shape and dirty? you had not noticed the cut right? hence infection is already in her bloodstream. she needs antibiotic.
good luck hon
