Heartworm Question

I have a golden lab of 6 years named Buddy. He has been diagnosed with heartworms once before, and had been treated, and been on Heartguard ever since.

Now, recently, his once a month Heartguard treatment was a week late. It was forgotten to be given to him. My question is, is this week enough to have caused any damage? Could heartworms have formed into adults in this period of time? I am just a bit worried of the situation, a bit of a nagging paranoia, thats all. I am hoping that in this time nothing too drastic could have formed.

Thanks.

Re: Heartworm Question

heartworm meds work on the month prior..... rather than being preventative in the traditional sense rather it kills anything that may have been in place from the previous month..... so that extra week shouldn't be a problem at all.....

Re: Heartworm Question

They are also further reaching than just the last 30 days...but, a 30 day (or once a month) schedule seems to be the easiest schedule for humans to remember to give it. You will be fine giving it now.
