Broken bones in paw

Our husky had a freak accident. She was tied up at a park (kids park) and an unleashed dog came up to her. When the unleashed dog ran away, our dog went to chase it, got her paw caught in the leash and it ultimately snapped all four of her bones in her paw. She is in a cast and we're told she must have surgery (and pins) since all four bones were broken. We live in the Denver area and have been quoted about $3200 for surgery/splint changes/pt, etc.

As $3200 is fairly steep for us right now, we are trying to see if other places will charge less. Has anyone ever utilized a vet school and if so, was it less expensive and how was the dog treated?
