My dog has a UTI and I have a new prescription for the anti-biotic 'Bactrim' 800-160 tabs. Is this a safe anti-biotic for her? She's 3 yrs. old and approx. 60 lbs. She has had a UTI before, when we first got her and was given anti-biotics for it, but I can't recall which one. Can I break them in half and give her a 1/2 pill 2x's per day?
Administration of Bactrim (Human drug name) depends on the condition for which it has been prescribed. It is very important, therefore, that you follow your vet's instructions. If you are unclear on how often and how much to administer, please call your vet for clarification. I have included a link below to info on the drug which includes possible side effects. I am seriously anal about educating myself on anything I put in my dogs' mouths. I always do my own research on what ever drug their vet has prescribed so that I know which signs to look for in the event of adverse reactions.
