Exclamation Please help!!

There is something wrong with Faith. She has runny poop, keeps throwing up, is just acting weird. Earlier today she acted ok. She was running, jumping, etc as normal. The last few mornings though she has got sick. Things weve done different: gave her garlic 1 day (stopped), Switched her food, Fed her a bone, and gave her ACV water (stopped), started her on Advantage. What should I do? Will an emergency vet do anything? Are they expensive?

Re: Please help!!

You've changed quite a few things within a short time span. Did you switch the food gradually (25% new food 75% old food for 3 days, 50/50 for 3 days, 75/25 for 3 days etc.)? Your gave her a new bone, added garlic and ACV to her diet that's a lot for a digestive tract to handle. Is she still drinking water and active? If she is lethargic call your vet.

I am one that rarely panics about dogs' health problems. I think some folks are too quick to rush to dire conclusions. If a dog has an occasional episode of vomiting, that might not be serious, all dogs do that once in awhile. A little loose stool here and that is probably alright. Combine those two symptoms and then you might have a more serious problem. Then you add a behavior change and then even my reds lights start to flash.

I am no vet. That is why in these situations I have always taken my dogs in ASAP. That is me, I can't speak for you or anyone else. Me, I'd rather error on the side of caution.

Re: Please help!!

Perhaps it's the advantage? Some dogs have bad reactions to it because it is quite toxic.

Let us know how she's feeling when you get back!

Thumbs up Re: Please help!!

They couldnt find a cause. They said to let her rest today, start her on bland diet tomorrow until no more vomit/poop, then slowly start back on kibble. If things get worse or dont change, bring her back. Im going to stop everything but the advantage (its already on her) and the kibble. We concluded its either from: Too much change in such a short amount of time, allergic reaction to something i started on her, or she swallowed part of the harness she decided to chew a few days ago (which he didnt feel this was it because shes not having trouble breathing or showing signs of a blockage).

So no trick or treating for Faith. Just lots of rest.

You are going to hold back on the kibble, right? The way you worded this sentence I am not sure how to read it.

Re: Please help!!

FaithFurMom09: Feed steamed chicken breasts and boiled brown rice twice a day for 3 days. Go out and get yourself a bag of good kibble that's within your price range and throw out that bag of Kibble n' Bits. On the fourth day, mix in 1/4 of kibble with the rice and chicken. On the seventh day, mix in half, and by the 10th day, you can give kibble entirely.

You can give your puppy a teaspoon of pumpkin, half teaspoon yogurt and half teaspoon ACV at anytime. For fleas, ONE minced garlic clove can be given spread out throughout the week. Other than that, I would not recommend adding anything else until your puppy's poop is consistent and there is no throwing up.

I know that you eventually want to cook for your pup, so in the meantime, you can read up on the great homecook recipes from Dr. Pitcairn's book and prep for cooking for your puppy.
