Question Nose drops..how to?

Help, we need to put nose drops in our pups nose, problem is, she is really strong and we are not. We can't seem to hold her head still. She's just a year old and a shep mix, weighs 16#'s. But when we try she just keeps jerking her head out of our hands (hubby holds her, I attempt to put in the drops). She has only been with us two weeks now, adopted her from shelter (with kennel cough, unbeknown to us). So she doesn't know or trust us yet. Our vet put her on 4 different antibiotics, 3 pills and something to inject into her mouth and these nose drops...vet closed today, so can't ask him...any ideas? We get the pills into her hidden in small bites of chicken bologna or cheese. We can get most of the injected stuff into her mouth before she jerks out of our grip and shakes the stuff all over the kitchen...but these nose drop...oh boy!

Re: Nose drops..how to?

Hmmm, what are the nose drops for I wonder? That sounds like a lot of medications for kennel cough! Anyway, this might be worth a shot. Have one person put a dab of peanut butter on their finger. While poochie is concentrating on licking the peanut butter off, the other person can apply the nose drops. This might be a little awkward and you will probably have to work fast. Just make sure the person with the peanut butter holds their hand up high so her head and nose are pointing up. This will make it easier to apply the drops.

Hope that helps and good luck.

Thank you diggitydog for your suggestion, we will certainly try it. As for the meds, we took her in because we thought she might have a Respiratory infection, she had a terribly runny nose, she was sneezing and you could hear her lungs ‘rattle’ when she resting. I trust my vet 100%, we have been taking our animals to him for years and years now. She has improved a lot since Sat, but just can't get the nose drop in and her runny nose is still bad. I will call our vet this am. Thank you again though. Also the 4 antibiotics were the 3 pills and liquid stuff

Oh OK! That makes sense--sounds like you have yourself a good vet there! Glad she is feeling better.

Re: Nose drops..how to?

Just to add, usually inserting the drops while the dog is inhaling is the fasteset surefire way to get them all in.

Good luck
