Re: Glucosamine for arthritis

when my lab pup had her two hip jobs at nine months, the vet put her on the stuff right away, for the rest of her life. is it okay to use he human kind as compared to dog products? never thought of it and it sure would be less expensive. i buy a product called missing link and it has the joint med in it

Should be fine. I give 500mg daily to my 16 month-old. The vet recommended it because we do a lot of physical activity including sports (jumping). If nothing else, it stops me from wondering whether I'm doing damage that will not rear its ugly head until too late.

Re: Glucosamine for arthritis

My 14 month old St. Bernard/Boxer mix has luxating patella in both hind legs. I started him on Cosequin DS and noticed tremendous improvement after 4 weeks. I switched him to GLC 1000 after the bottle of Cosequin ran out. GLC is less expensive and has higher levels of Glucosamine and Chondroitin in it. It seems like a much better product. It has been 7 weeks since I first started him on the Cosequin and I am amazed at how his mobility has improved. It is definitely working for him. My 12 year old Springer is also on a glucosamine/condroitin supplement and has a much easier time going up stairs as a result.

Re: Glucosamine for arthritis

Glucosamine and Chondroitin are both perfectly safe supplements for treating dog hip and joint pain. Here is an article I wrote that discusses all the treatments for dog hip and joint pain, including the controversial use of NSAIDs. http://ezinearticles.com/?Safe-and-A...ain&id=3320031

When buying a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement make sure the chondroitin is sourced from shark rather than bovine trachea. A good hip/joint supplement is INhancer from ALC INovators. Find it here: http://www.inpetsupplements.com
