| Growth on neck. Hi guys,
I just came back to this forum, hoping maybe one of you would recognize the issue my dog is having.
When he was two or three(he is now 7) I noticed a very small pea sized lump on his neck, it had an opening and if you squeezed it a kind of thick pus like substance would come out. I never really thought anything of it and therefore never mentioned it at the vets. However, over the years it has grown and it is now quite large.
I am wondering if anyone else has encountered something like this. I'm sure it isn't uncommon, and it doesn't seem to be bothering him, however I don't know how big it will get and it is located right where his collar sits.
Here are a few pictures:
Anyway, thanks in advance. |

| Re: Growth on neck. I agree a vet visit is in order. Also how did your vet miss it? |

| Re: Growth on neck. Well I'm planning on taking him to the vet soon but we just got the cat fixed, just rescued a pup with fleas, so had to treat them all and get her shots done. So it will have to wait until the end of next week at least. Was just wondering in the mean time if anyone had dealt with anything like it.
The vet missed it because it hides under his collar, and he tends to be aggressive so we keep exams short. Mind you it wasn't this big last year when we took him to the vet, so understandable that he didn't notice it.
Thanks. |

| Re: Growth on neck. I would have asked my vet about it a long time ago. A pus leaking lump is not normal. Why have you left it unchecked so long? This has been going on 4 years??? I mean from the pics it looks seriously gnarly. I'm not sure I understand why you are adopting more animals if you won't afford the one you have now.
I'm sorry to sound mean, I realize I don't know you, but from the little information you have given this just seems irresponsible. |

| Re: Growth on neck. Wow quick to attack.
No, I can easily afford the animals I have, but thankyou for your concern. He has been for yearly checkups, is up to date on his shots, eats Wellness core, still actively trains and competes in several dog sports and is very well cared for.
Like I said, it started out very small, and I assumed it was a pimple of some sort. I think I may have given the wrong impression, it didn't really grow gradually over the whole time. It stayed the same size for a long time and has only gotten this big in the past year. I do his shots in December and it has grown to this size since then. So like I said I will be taking him to the vet for it before the middle of next month, but I don't see it as an emergency.
Anyway. I wasn't looking to be flamed. Try not to jump to conclusions about people. If there is no one who has experienced something like this, that is fine, I am not trying to use this forum in place of a vet, was just curious. |

| Re: Growth on neck. Like I said, I really wasn't trying to be a jerk, I was just going on what little information that you posted. Sorry for being harsh. I guess the other underlying reason is two out of my three family dogs developed large tumors in their older age and eventually died of cancer. And when I see weird bumps I think of tumors. I just don't think it's something to take lightly. |

| Re: Growth on neck. I am sorry to hear about your losses.
I didn't really think cancer was a big worry in this situation, I think it is probably some sort of Sebaceous cyst. I will be getting it looked at, like I said I wasn't looking for a diagnosis and he will be going to the vet for it. |

| Re: Growth on neck. Just thought I would update. We went to the vet last week and it was a Sebaceous cyst. The reason it looks so large is because it had a large layer of fluid crusted onto it. |
