| Dog with torn ACLs... do braces/splints help? My dog injured her ACL in both back legs about a year and a half ago. We took her to the vet fairly soon after it happened, but the only option was to do surgery on one or both of her back legs, and the price for each leg was far too expensive for us to have it done. Also, we were told that the surgery may or may not work anyways. Since that time, we have been giving her medication to help with the pain and helping her move around, but she is not very mobile and I'm afraid it has gotten worse lately. She is still very interested in moving around and doing stuff but she has a very hard time walking.
One of the problems that has become more evident over time is the strain that it is putting on her front ankles and legs. Her legs are starting to bow a bit and she is starting to suffer from carpal hyperextension (I believe that is the correct term). Here is my question: would braces/splints help her legs or help her walk? I've looked around and there are various types of braces or splints, either to help with ACL problems or splints for dog's ankles. I'm just not sure how much these would help, and since they seem to be fairly expensive I'd like to know if anyone has experience with this, either with braces for the back leg ACL problem or something for her front legs and ankles. |
