telling a dog is in season

Ok my girl is 7months old and she has not came in before. Well a few days ago we noticed a TINY bit of blood on the floor, and when we whiped her off there was a TINY bit. But not alot at all. We never had a female before so we are not sure if she is in or coming in. She is not all to swollen really or at least i dont think so maybe im looking at it wrong. Maybe if some one tells me how it should look or feel it might help me some.

we will be getting her fixed after this i believe. we just have not got to do it yet.

Sounds like she is. They dribble and swell. It may get a bit worse. If shes a big dog it may be more noticeable. Ive groomed lots of small dogs and no one ever knew their dog was in heat. Def get her spayed as soon as she is out of season.

oh we are getting her fixed soon we just have not got the money and time and date yet :\. She is a small dog she is a schnoodle. She is indoors and only goes out with us on a leash to go potty. So she does not have any dogs near her and we are not letting any dogs near her now till this is over.

Re: telling a dog is in season

sounds very much like she is just starting...you have about 3 wks of her cycle....keep her very much confined for the duration (only out on a leash, and make sure there are no males around....they can get aggressive even toward you)....for about the 1st 11 days (give or take a day or 2) there will be a "bloody show", this will go to almost no blood (pinkish discharge) and the vulva will swell...this lasts about 5-7 days (give or take) and is her most receptive time for being bred then you will go back to the blood and the swelling will go down for the remainder of the cycle (approx. 7 days)....

wait at least 6 wks after her cycle b/4 spaying...there's a greater chance of her bleeding badly during the surgery if it's done to soon.....

wow thank you so much for that info! right now i guess its a little swelled up but not alot but than again this is my first female dog. There is a little blood here and there but not very much just like a tiny bit every so often. We are getting her some diapers today from petsmart so she does not mess the carpet up here, We have white carpet :\. I'll see about getting the fixing done maybe in Dec that will make sure she should be ok.

telling a dog that is about to go in season is easy, you would start to see her vagina starts to become swollen and puffy

She'll get swollen back there and bleed a bit. Then after that, just a lot of discharge. The swelling will go down after her heat cycle is over (3-4 weeks)
