Unhappy worried about Shiloh

Hi, Haven't been on here in a while. Thoguht I'd post what has been going on with Shiloh. We spent the night away last Monday and Shiloh stayed at my moms. Came back Tuesday so was only gone one night. We picked him up Tuesday night and he was so wound up and happy to see us. Wednesday morning about 8:20 (he was still in bed with me), he stood up and started to heave and so I picked him up and put him on the tiled floor in the bathroom. He threw up. He looked droopy and mopey all day. He didn't eat or drink water. At 2pm he threw up again.

I spoke to a friend of mine who knows a lot about dogs and asked if she thought I should take a boat over to the mainland to see the vet. She suggested I boil some bland white rice in chicken broth to see if he'd eat that. He licked it down and kept it down. And he drank water. He did eat a tiny bit of his regular food after then.

I brought him over to the vet the next day and he tested negative for worms and seemed a bit brighter. Vet gave a shot (don't know what to be honest) just no case it was a 'bug' type thing to help him along.

At times he seemed like he was getting better but still didn't look bright eyed, you know. Still mopey and isn't into playing a whole lot.

Friday he seemed ok but not 100% and we were going away for 2 nights. We're back and he still looks mopey and not a whole lot of energy and even depressed. We have not left him very much at all since we have had him and I wonder also if he isn't depressed a little bit.

He is kinda licking his mouth a bit more or different than usual until it makes me wonder if maybe he doesn't have a prickle in his mouth even.

Today he didn't even want to get up when me and my husband woke up. And that is not normal. He always wants to lick us in the morning and jumps down and wants to play.

I'm taking him to another vet in a bit. Shiloh's normal vet is only on our island on Thursdays.

Any thoughts? Oh and I didn't mention the first day he was sick was also his 1st birthday...Poor baby spent it not feeling well.

Is he still eating his food without throwing it up? It could be a lot of different things. I think it's good that you are taking him to the vet.

He is eating without throwing up now...just is not himself and looks so mopey and blah....Vet doesn't see anything to cause alarm at this point. He put him on doxicllian(sp?) just in case of Erhiclia...but I've never ever found a tick on Shiloh.....we'll see if he perks up soon....thanks

Re: worried about Shiloh

UPDATE- he perks up a little at times but one can tell he is not himself. He just lays around and we can call and call him and it's like he doesn't have it in him to be bothered to get up. He looks at you like he's tryng to tell you he doesn't feel well and his eyes doesn't look quite the same. Kind of hard to explain. Today when my hubby went home for lunch he found a small spot where Shiloh threw up again. I called the vet and told him I would bring him over tomorrow morning for blood work just for peace of mind and if it is something more serious wrong I rather catch it now rather than later.

We are so scared that it is something serious like kidney failure even though there is no pee dribble or anything to make us think it is. Shiloh is our first dog ever and he's the center of our world, we are just going out of our mind with worry.

Re: worried about Shiloh

Is it possible that he could of eaten something that might be blocking his intestines? I had a GSD that ate a kitchen towel, the whole thing, took x-rays and there it was in his stomach. The reason I took him to the Vet is because he was throwing up and didn't seem to feel to well.

I hope it's nothing serious.

Hi, nope, intestines clear...I started worming him just in case and I did blood work today. I must say that last night and all day today he has been pretty much back to himself. SO he may have had a bug, it could still be worms....I pray nothing serious. I will post if I have the results tomorrow. Thanks for posting back to me.

We will be keeping our paws crossed here also that it's nothing serious.

Hi Everyone,

He is doing much better and seems to be back o himself. Unfortunately, the courier didn't deliver the blood until the end of the day so most of it was 'spoiled' and we were only able to get some results back that were accurate. We ruled out kidney or liver failure. Thank God. We weren't able to rule out Ehrilicia because of the bad blood so I think I'll have a snap test done to be sure.

He is still on the doxicyclen (sp). VEt put him on for 28 days. But I don't know why he wants to put him on the medicine but is not concerned with finding out if he has Ehricilia which is why he has him on the meds in the first place.

Thanks for the concern and I'll keep you updated.
