Bananas

My papillon has food allergies so for her treats I gravitate toward all natural.

I recently found a new treat which is dehydrated chicken breast wrapped around a chunk of dried banana. Long story short, I know that bananas can constipate people, but has anyone experienced this with their dog? I hardly give her any and it just seems like it constipates her, but I'm not totally positive? The treats were soooooo expensive, so I'm hoping its just a random fluke. But curious if anyone else experienced banana issues.

Our dogs get bananas in preparation for running/coursing (extra potassium to prevent cramps). I've never noticed it to cause a problem in them. 'Course our dogs are much larger than yours, so it may be a size differential thing.

My vet, who practices holistic medicine, recommends bananas in the dog's diet. He also recommends pears and believe it or not sardines. For my guys, I have GSDs, he recommended 1 sardine a day for each. Which by the way, they love.

I provide bananas, pears, and sardines for my dogs, too! Also apples and watermelon.

Haven't noticed any constipation with the bananas, but, they're big dogs (Standard Poodles), and they don't get a whole lot of banana.

I used to mix banana in barf diet, never noticed any constipation. Bones will also harden the motions.
