Wink distinguishing all the pups apart

someone told me there is special neck bands to put on the pups after they are born to tell them apart. well does anyone have any other suggestions and if not if it is the same one about the bands where do i get them....she said she made hers but i am not sure what type of material. she also said she numbered them by order of their birth and it helps to tell them apart. so any suggestions would be helpful... oh yeah the pup that i wrote about earlier is still living and doing ok. i got it to nurse from his mom and i managed to help supplement....

thanks

Most breeders I know simply use coloured ribbon to distinguish the pups and then switch to collars as the pups start getting around and playing more. In which case the ribbons can be easily destroyed by those needle-like teeth.

I am not a breeder and but I did get my dog from a breeder, he was one of 13--each dog had a different color yarnish (not really yarn, more stretchy) around their neck so there was a "yellow boy and a Yellow girl", "blue boy and a blue girl, etc." Now a friend of mine's pup had painted toenails, each dog had different color toenail--red boy, red girl, purple girl, purple boy--I am sure there is children's nailpolish which is safe to apply (water based or something)---just some suggestions---
